These are wonderful thoughts and stories, and truly show just how life changing the decision to take in a dog really is. My husband and I spent about a year and a half looking into all of the breeds, we knew that we just couldn't get one that we liked, it had to be one that worked with our lifestyle, and the Corgi was the perfect choice. But even with all of the reading and asking questions, we are still amazed after three years just how much it has changed our life. I wish everyone caught onto this, and before they get a dog.

I am so glad to hear of all these rescues as I also feel that if I have not taken Buta in that day, life would not have been so fulfiling for me & also for Buta (I hope she feels so too)...
![]() I have been suffering from depression since young & was very anti-social too, ever since Buta came into my life, relationship with my family is much closer as I spent more time at home & also I have made lots of new friends on the forums & actually went for corgi gatherings! The old me would never have done all these things. I am so so glad that I have Buta with me.

My female tri Reba was a rescue. She was 8 years old then (is now 12 1/2). She and her son lived with an older couple and eventually the older couple went to live with their daughter who also had 2 dogs of her own. Out went mom & dad's dogs. They wanted them placed together but I only wanted one dog so I got Reba. I originally wanted about a 3 year old but took her because I thought her chances of finding a home would be less. She's a great dog, the best I've ever had, and has been a great role model for my 10 month old corgi pup. He "thinks" he's the boss of the house, but we girls know different. She puts him in his place when he needs it. She's starting to show her age and is starting to get disoriented in the dark. Possibly cataracts? I think she's possibly also starting to have hearing problems. She's slowing down too, moving slower, not wanting to walk as much. I got her from a corgi rescue not knowing much about the breed. After getting the puppy (as company) for her, I think I was smarter getting a rescue. The puppy is a real handful and destructive to boot. So much easier getting an adult.
Reba has had her problems, pancreatis, had to have a ligament replaced in her leg, but wouldn't trade her for the world. Her son was placed about 3 hours away and a year after the placements there was a corgi picnic and we were both there (mom & son). Thinking like a human, I thought they'd be thrilled to see each other again. They sniffed each other, acknowledged each other, and walked away not caring less. I was so disappointed. Oh well. Rescuing through a corgi rescue is wonderful. And bless them, they are saints for having such loving hearts. They put the dogs through their paces so you have a clue to the dogs temperament around children or cats, etc. The so called corgis that are at the shelters are anything with short legs and a long torso, or pointy ears. These people must have vision problems. I went on more shelter goose chases before turning to the corgi rescue. |
