Man Bonnie - this is tough...
Dale 1 and 2 look very much alike - so that doesn't really factor in Dale 1 cuddly and mild but may need dental help Dale 2 was scrappy but now mellowing after the others caught up with him What was Chip like as a puppy? He has turned out great - maybe you should choose the one who's personality is most like Chip at their age??? This is one decision I am glad isn't mine to make...

Do you get to pick in person?
If so, do an abbreviated mini Volhard Puppy Aptitude - take each puppy you are interest in to a different area than the pen or whelping box away from the other puppies so that you are interacting one-on-one.
Hold the puppy and get to know it. They will act differently when they are not with their pack. Hold it gently on its back. Does it struggle hard, not at all, some and then give up? That will tell you about it's temperament. As you pet it and talk to it, does it react to you, turn away, lick you, that will also tell you a lot about who it is. Put it down in the room and see if it prefers to be with you, away from you, play, cower. Even if you do these couple of simple things in an environment away from the pack, it will give you much more insight to their real personality. And the choice may become apparent. Good luck, and what a wonderful dilemma! It's either win, win, or win. How fun. |

That's an absolute key - isolate each Corgi pup if there is more than one of them and see how they react with you as per the methods suggested. by Bayou

Well the deed is done and we will be bringing little Tuff Stuff home in a little over a week. A very very tough decision but I have to think of Chip first and this decision was based on Chip's best interests. Ironically, he is the one that I had my eye on for the last while because he looks so much like Chip I guess and then the breeder said he was growly and I might want to reconsider and look at some of the others.

I know what a hard decision you had...but I am a firm believer in things "happening for a reason"... Your little tuffy was apparently "destined" to come live with you and Dale! He is absolutely darling and it sounds like he comes with "personality plus"!! Congratulations and I, also, will be anxiously waiting to hear the name you choose and, of course, ALL about the homecoming next week!!

Thank you all for the support and advice you have given me. It has made this experience so much easier. I am going to wait until he is home with us before deciding on a name - it took us almost a week to name Chip.
