Corgi Sighting at Work! - 01-19-2007, 02:21 PM

I have started working at PetSmart's PetsHotel again for some extra money. Today, I was doing the day camp in the front (in case you've never seen one, the PetsHotels have a glass-fronted room in the front and customers can see day camp in action Mon-Fri). What should wander up to the glass today? A woman and a pair of Corgis! I had to go up to the glass and yell (and "sign") "I have TWO, too! A red/white and a tri!" That was fun. Her Pems were red/white, but a the bigger one had some black mixed in on the face. They were surprisingly calm.

Tomorrow, we are going to have a brief visit to the Houston Pem Club's fun day. Can't stay long, but they will enjoy it.

And Jessica - welcome back from Maui!

Love a Corgi spotting - makes your day.

On Tuesday I was standing in my usual dazed way at the end of the day waiting for a downtown bus to the subway.

I was thinking about Bonnie's Chip for some reason????

Anyway, a car pulled up at the light in front of me and there was a big black Lab standing in the car just like Rupe does so I was chuckling to myself.

Suddenly, in the backseat, a Corgi stands up with his face to the window right in front of me!!! He was the spitting image of Chip! So, I holler "Chip!!!".

Well, this is Toronto and you don't mess with the crazy people, rule is you look at your feet and don't make eye contact. I just kind of muttered - "uh thought it was a dog I know" and people averted their eyes as required.

I couldn't get over it - very odd, the Corgi popping up - not me.

I kept meaning to tell Bonnie - check Chip's passport, he may have been north this week

Golly Deb you just never know. Chip may have been up there looking to give you corgi kisses and lots of lovins or maybe he was looking for an introduction to sweet Jemma I'll have to keep a better watch on him and definitely check his passport

I wish we had a PetSmart hotel in Lancaster! We have a PetSmart...no hotel attached. I pass by it everyday on the way to work so it would be nice to drop Milo off now and then for a day at Camp! It would be a fun place to work...to see all the different dogs that come in! Sometimes animals are more fun to work with than people!

That must have been exciting to see two corgis! I am the same way, i see anyone with a corgi and I have to run over and say hi and in the begining my husband would kind of hang back and look around like he didn't know me but now he does it too, just in a much calmer way!... Corgi lovers UNITE!

EEEEEKKKK! I worked again today and....guess what? A cute little tri-colored male came to board! He's 8 months old and he is soooo cute! I took him for his relief walk and visited him in his "suite" and he was so friendly! What a little bucket of cuddles! He had a weird name...Kratos? But he was adorable!

It is such fun seeing corgis no matter where they are. Now there are at least three other corgis in town. When we are out of town we are thrilled when we see them. A pair live close to the shop where our car is serviced, about 150 miles from home. They walk together on the tandem leads.

The best time to see them when we have to be away from our three and are suffering from lack of corgi. As a tourist who is always with a camera, I have taken photos of them in England, Australia, and New Zealand as well as Canada and the USA. Mutual love of our little dogs is a good way to start conversations.

Red Head - when were you in New Zealand and where did you visit.

It was in 2004. The World Congress on Coloured Sheep was held in Christchurch. November was a lovely time to be there. My flight landed in Auckland. My first few days were spent at the Paihia, because the Congresses tours did not go north. The first Congress tour went south through Hamilton, on to Rotorua, Taupo, Palmerston North, Masterson, through Upper Hutt and Loewr Hutt to Wellington. After crossing Cook Strait we went to Nelson, then to Hamner Springs via Kawatiri, Burnbrae, and Springs Junction. From Hamner Springs it was a quick trip to Christchurch. On the 2nd tour we rode the Alpine Express through Aurthur's Pass to Hokitika. Our coach met us and we continued south to Haast. We went to Queenstown, Milford Sound, Te Anau, Gore, Dunedin, up the coast to Timaru and back to Christchurch. A bird watching tour went to a lot of the same places, but included Stewart Island.

Almost seven weeks was not enough time to see the "small country" of New Zealand. Corgis were seen in Auckland, Paihia (a lovely red and white 13 year old "girl" who took her owner on walks three times a day), Christchurch, and Gore. Friends started showing corgis to me while we were on the coach after my excitement at seeing the first one.

Your country was filled with delightful friendly people, gorgeous scenery, beautiful gardens, and CORGIS. A return trip is on my "must do" list.

That's quite a journey - and much more comprehensive than most tourist accomplish. I'm pleased you went through the Hutt Valley and Wellington which are my stamping grounds. In Christchurch there is the world's only public sculpures of Corgis - in one of the main streets there is a crew of Corgis made of bronze and correct for size, all doing slightly different things. I believe they have been there since 2003. Christchurch is one of the main cities in NZs for Pem Corgi population.

Thanks for your impressions. There is a cheque (check) coming to you in the mail. And you spelt coloured correctly!!!

A full movie will be released world wide either later this year or early next year which features insane and dangerous killer sheep. Of course it is produced in New Zealand - and all the sheep are NZ actors. Yesterday at Paws in the Park I asked a leading animal actors scout why has there been no recent work for Taylor and she said that the movie people are currently looking for talented sheep. By the way, she was impressed with Taylor's performance in the agility demo.

I agree - a corgi sighting is a wonderful pick me up! I get excited even to see a picture of one in an unexpected place! We corgi-folk are an odd bunch!

Tana, which Petsmart? I might come visit! Liam and I usually go to Petco in Clear Lake because its so close to the house, but we go on walkabout now and again. We're thinking about starting herding lessons out in Hempstead but its so far away. He loved it tho.
