Will flute playing hurt a puppy's ears? - 03-17-2007, 06:37 PM

In preparation for a puppy, I need to find out how we should handle the puppy and my son's flute playing.

Our past dog was so senior and deaf that she handled the flute music well after a week of his practice. She would look up at me when my son would play a really high note, then see I had no reaction, she'd go back to sleep.

My son is an accomplished player and practices 40 minutes, probably 45 when we get our puppy.

My thoughts are that I would have the puppy in an adjacent room to see how he would react and let him approach the flute playing if he wanted to. Or I could have him outside for the first introduction and proceed to the room after that.

Need all helpful hints on handling this daily situation.

Thanks.
Merrie

I don't think it'll be an issue. My dogs adjusted just fine when Jeff begin to learn to play the violin. And some of them selpt in his room, which is where he practiced.

I don't recall any of my dogs taking exception to his practicing. I'd treat it as a normal occurance of everyday life and not worry about it. Don't treat it as a problem (or potential problem) unless it becomes one.

Peggy

Merrie,

My daughter plays the clarinet and I never saw Cody being bothered by her playing. Sometimes she practices in the family room, but often in her bedroom with the door closed.

Emilie,
My son can play the Fiddle a bit, but father in law is really good. Mostly bluegrass gospel.

My son always played his guitar very loud Darci would lay on his bed and watch him.

Leah plays guitar - we just bought her a new pink electric one for her birthday next week (Hubby gave her the new one last month LOL)

She plays loud but neither the electric or the acoustic seem to bother The Girls... Chloe sometimes tries to help her play...but Chloe's nose just isn't as nimble as she thinks and her notes come out jumbled - more like Punk music

When I was taking Violin lessons and practicing in the dining room, I would find I had a fuzzy audience. Milo and the 2 kitties would literally sit side by side watching me. They were so fascinated by the sound I guess. It didn't seem to bother them, Milo didn't even howl once.
