New Corgi crate training
This weekend we just got our second Corgi, a little red pem girl. We have a crate for her all set up and we've been using it for bedtime and when we need to have her somewhere safe and out of the way. The problem is she HATES the crate. It's a wire crate, there's some toys in there, we feed her in the crate, but whenever we put her in there she cries until she sleeps.
Any suggestions? |

Most people recommend that the crate be covered on three sides - then it is really like a quiet dark den. My question for you - is she somewhere she can see you when you put her in there for the night. Both dogs I had from pups were in crates in my bedroom at - they could see me and felt secure. I never fed them in the crate.

crates
Be patient is my only thoughts. I feed my boys in theirs so they associate it with happy things. Now they go in whenever they are hungry. I cover them too when it is time for sleep but they are side by side so they can see each other so no lonelies.

The night we brought Dale home, we were exhausted from all the travel so I put him in his crate right beside my bed and shut the lights off. He immediately started whining and Chip gets off the bed and is thumping around on the floor. I turn the light back on and there is Chip sitting beside the crate and Dale whining. I was to tired to listen to that all night especially with Chip's pleading eyes so I got up, put Chip on the bed, took Dale out of his crate and put him on the bed and got a good night's sleep. Dale has been sleeping there ever since. Unfortunately, he still doesn't like his crate but will tolerate it when he has to go to the Vet's.

Yes they do - right now it is early morning and after a potty break they are back on the bed for their early morning wrestling match. They are two peas in a pod. Usually if you see one you see the other.
