Okay all... Lets get this rolling!
My list of names so far: Iefan - "God is gracious" <pronounced EEE-fan> Owen - "Well born" Arland - "pledge" Anwell - "Beloved / dear one" Conall - "Strong as a wolf" <MY FAVORITE so far!> Cyrano - have to find meaning Drostan - "The noisy one" Lann / LAN - A sword. also a LAN line for us geeksters! What are your thoughts on puppy names? I will add that, I will not choose a name until I meet the puppy and spend some time with him to see what "fits"... if you know what I mean? How many of you knew what this meant? Pembroke Male Celtic A broken hill. Another one I like that I'm putting on the list: Tristan Male Celtic The noisy one. Let me know if anyone has these doggy names here. I don't want to duplicate someones good idea or step on any toes!

I have a cat named Triston - I spell it with the "o" rather than the "a" - well because I am such a rebel I guess. He is Triston for the "tri" as he only has three legs. I was actually going to suggest the name Tristan. It's a good name for a dog as it has a good solid sound to it that they will recognize and it doesn't become a rude word when you shorten it!
For a gal I suggest Caleigh (kaley), it's means "from the forest" - like our supposed myth of the orgin of the Corgwn. Whatever name you pick I have 3 pieces of advice: 1. Don't have it rhyme with "no" - they will get confused fast! 2. Stand in your yard and yell the name at the top of your voice like you are calling them back - see how it sounds - if you feel silly - try another name. 3. Don't have a name that sounds like or rhymes with other animals in your home - they tune out their names fast enough, but if they think you are talking to someone esle - you'll realy lose them! Have fun with it!!

Hopefully, after you meet them, "noisy one" won't be the name that fits them best!
![]() They are all lovely. And I love the idea of using a Welsh name.

Ooooh, I like Rory. Also Connell, Tristan, and Iefan. Of course, you realize, no one ever pronounces names like "Iefan" correctly.
Rhys always get called "Rice" (sometimes "Reez" which is a little closer), even by the secretaries at the Vet's office! But it's fun correcting them and telling them it's pronounced "Reese", like the peanut butter cup. Then I tell them it's Welsh and I feel really smart.

Are you doing registered names or call names? IF registered names, then the breeder's kennel name is going to be a part of the name as well. You might also want to ask IF the breeder is using a theme to the litter which will factor into the naming scheme too. Also, there is a 30 letter limit to names on AKC registrations.

Our new Cardi (picking him up April 14) will be either Hero or Scout. I knew not to rhyme it with Millie (really, I didn't want anything ending with "ie" or "ee" or "ey", you get it), but I never thought about not sounding like "no". Hmmm, we were pretty settled on Hero but may have to go to Scout.
We looked at lots and lots of Welsh and Celtic names (I love them), but all 4 of us couldn't come to an agreement on any of them. So out they go! We're also working on the registered name, it must have the word "spice" or the name of a spice in it. I didn't know there was a letter limit, that's good to know. |

Naming is SO much fun. And look how we are different. We choose the name before meeting the puppy so the breeder can start using it. Of course we have the distance problem and won't see the puppy earlier, well I'm trying to save the gas and time money not seeing the puppies earlier.
For our family I called out from my computer the names from the websites and my son says yes or I say yes while hubby was at work. Then at dinner I go through the list saying each name and crossing out or tick mark possible. For us how the name sounds is important. What Jespah said is how we think. My husband really liked Oscar, but I had a "bad" friend called Oscar. So things like that affect the name. Too many syllables also nix some names because our last name is three syllables and we'd like the name to fit on the dog tag. I think we were so used to a name ending in "er" (Pepper) is why we chose Chester for the boy, and boys have big chests. If it is a girl, April, because it is SO different sounding from Pepper. From your list I liked the sound of Arland, and you know a corgi does pledge to protect us. Merrie |

As far as puppy food, my vet suggested Large Breed puppy food for my dog. Duncan was limping when he was little and the first thing he checked was his growth plates to make sure he wasn't growing up too fast for them. He stated that Large Breed puppy food gives them the nutrition they need and yet doesn't let them grow to fast. Made sense to me.

A few other things - it is possible that one of the breeders may have already registered the puppies individually, so the registered name will already be covered.
Tarragon has a dragon connection, also known as dragonwort - the dragon being a symbol of Wales. Debbie |

MrsGrace... great names! I like Conall and Tristan...and Casey, because that's my quasi-sister-in-law's name
Rory is good too!In talking to our breeder about call names/registered names...she will give the dogs both, but still gladly switch when we figure out which puppy is ours. she's happy to start calling the dog by our name ASAP, and as soon as our dog is spayed or neutered, we'll get AKC registration papers and can do our own registered name if we want to, too. A friend gave us a good suggestion for the silly AKC registered name... it has to include the phrase "Apple iBark"
