Yeah.....Don't spoil her! LOL!!!!

Just work on her house training, she will pick it up quick. If you have your own backyard, find a place where you want her to go all the time and take her there. I wish I did that with my dog......would make yard cleanup a heck of a lot easier. We have a huge backyard, and I hate doing "poop patrol" as I call it before we mow; especially if the grass gets a little high. That would be my suggestion.

Agreed....

Housebreaking, Housebreaking, Housebreaking.

One rule I have heard - A puppy can hold it the nuber of months they are by an hour. So... Two months old - two hours between take outs.

Makes for interupted sleep but it's worth it...

Plus LOTS of play time!!!

You will surely want to cuddle a puppy, but take some time to handle their feet and open up their mouths so they get used to being touched in that way. Duchess is squeemish of having her feet picked up to cut the hairs between her toes/under her foot. She is getting better as I have been very gentle with her, even though I got her at seven years old. Get them used to brushing, coat, teeth. Habits you make now will reward you in years to come.
Have fun. Jane

These are great ideas, but not for the first weekend. Start that in a few days when she's settled in some.

For the first weekend, just let her get adjusted to being without littermates and in a new place. She should be eating about 4 times a day, and going out to potty frequently. (As someone said every 2-3 hours.)

Make sure you take her out after she eats, after she plays and always first thing on waking up. And any other time she looks like she needs to go out.

Hopefully you'll get some food from the breeder or at least the brand. Best to feed her what she's used to. Might need to soak it for her.

Hopefully, you've already gotten a crate, toys, bowls and food for her.

Peggy

Woke me up in the middle of the night when she had to pee so I could get her to paper. Very impressed. So far this morning shes been happy as a clam. Ill put up some really great pics later.

To help her stop crying, put some rice in a tube sock, heat it in the microwave until it's warm. Place that AND a ticking alarm clock under the sock. The warm sock gives them something to snuggle against, and the ticking of the clock reminds them of a heartbeat. You may have to do this several times, but they usually get use to sleeping by themselves. As far as sleeping in bed with you.....that's up to each owner. I don't allow my dogs to sleep with us, but they're beds are close to our beds.

Oh...she is adorable!!!! She looks exactly like my Biscuit did when I brought him home! By the way..I put him in bed with me that first night too and he has not slept anywhere else since.I don't mind though except for the snoring...in fact I'd miss him not being in the bed (-;

She is a little beauty. Plenty of cuddles and kisses. and handling and fondling from all the family. I have never been an advocate of those who say 'don't overhandle your Corgi'. Great to bond from the first moments of togetherness. After a couple of days start the training process - toilet training, come-sit-stay training etc.
Puppies need to toilet at least five times a day. Exciteability will promote the need for a pee.

Peggy: I bow to your expertise but I was a little ticked that you seem to brush off what I was saying. I know where you are coming from but don't think what I suggested is so far out. A little fondling of feet and mouth won't hurt. I was not saying that brushing teeth should be done right away.
I know how hard I have had it with Duchess being wary about my handling her feet, so when I saw the suggestions on this website to do just that to a puppy I said Yeah, that makes sense.
I am not really offended, just feel better to get this out of my gut. Jane

Love the pic of your puppy and welcome to the Board. On a side note, Jane I thought those were good suggestions. When I first got Chip & Dale both, I would rub their little paws while they were cuddled on my lap and handled them both freely. They are not the worse for wear. I also put Dale in bed with us the first night home because Chip would have none of Dale sleeping in a crate and Dale whined. I looked in both of their mouths quite often and did not have any problems. Each puppy is different so you should use your best judgment. I don't think you can over handle a corgi's feet. Chip and Dale still don't like it.
