Alex - it takes little time for a Corgi to get use to a non-tight collar. But attaching a leash to the collar might make a lot of difference for a short while. And this aspect is all to do with leash and heel and walking training.
I don't use collars - I use a very very lightwright and small slip chain.

It depends on the dog. Usually only a couple of days. I start my when my puppies are about 5 weeks old. I put collars on them and they tug at each others collars. That way they get used to a collar being on and feeling some pressure on it. So they're not so upset when I attach a leash a few weeks later and start leash training.

For a puppy a bit older like yours, I'd put the collar on and just ignore it. In two to three days I would expect the puppy would be ignoring the collar and be used to wearing it. A day or two after that I'd start putting a leash on and letting the puppy drag it.

I recommend flat, inexpensive, buckle collars for puppies. It will need to be replaced as the puppy grows so don't get expensive ones. When the puppy is 4-6 months old you can get a collar you want. I recommend rolled leather ones. Or the limited slip ones you can get at White Pine.

I do not recommend slip (aka training or choke) collars for puppies when you are leash training as they can fight and hurt themselves. And when you want a puppy to get used to a collar you need to leave it on them. You should NEVER leave a slip collar on a dog if you are not with the dog.

Buckle collar I assume? If so that's fine. That's what I start my puppies on.

My Corgis never have a collar or a slip chain left on them when off leash.

I'm going to keep mine on since this is a fairly large neighborhood and incase she does get lost or runs away, when someone finds her they'll be able to call me due to the I.D. tag on the collar.

I agree, and I know of dogs that have been returned due to the ID tags on the collar. In fact we got a cat of mine back (he was staying at my aunt's during a move) and it was the tag on his collar that enabled the people who found him to return him to us.

My dogs wear collars and tags.

I am buying keepsafe collars for my two.
I read a terrible story on some other forums.
A girl on there came home to find one of her dogs dead.
Her other dog's jaw had gotten stuck in the collar during play, causing strangulation. The other dog very badly bruised its jaw also.

Keepsafe collars come apart once pressure is applied to them, but have double 'D' loops which you attach your lead to while walking.
KeepSafeCollar.com break-away collars for your dog

My two will never be left alone with a plain flat collar on again.

Just an update...

As you can see if you look at the picture of her as a puppy 3 or so months ago and a picture taken recently, you can see her black fur is completely gone.

Puppy...

Peanut is 15 wks old, tri colored, and I'm noticing some of his black is fading too. Its along his neck and more visable under the sun.

Kate is a beautiful dog. Now I'm wondering what color Charlie will turn out. He is listed as sable (the ends of the red fur have black tips), but his black is very light. If it goes away, he'll be a red and white, instead of a sable.

His dad is a tri with lots of black, his mom is a sable, but with very light black tips.

Well I'm going to love him...whatever color he ends up. Didn't realize that they changed that much!
