Maxi was neutered on his 6 month birthday, I do not remember him licking his incision very much. We watched him and redirected his attention to something else when he did want to lick. The only problem we had was trying to keep him calm and not stop him from jumping off things. He seem to be more rambunctious during his recuperation time then before or after. We worked very hard to keep him calm because the Vet told us that it was very important especially with little boys. We did have to take him to the Vet to remove a couple of stitches that did not come out on their own.

When we got Jasmine spayed, (part rottie) they put a t shirt on her and she loved it. She pranced around as if she had a million dollars on her. She didn't lick herself though.

Oh yes, I forgot that I will have to keep him from jumping up on things.

Linda,

I've had some fuss with their incisions and even try to play doctor and remove sutures and others that paid them not a minute's attention. The onesie idea is super. E-collars are a pain <LOL>, but sometimes one has to do what one must. There are some soft ones on the market and one called a no-bite collar. Every time I have to use an e-collar on one, I keep thinking I need to invest in one of those. The onesie would be a whole lot cheaper!

I love the onesie idea, and I think I am going to have one on hand in case
I need it - X-large I am assuming.

*~* Vomit...!!!

*~* Midnight & Sunshine went in to the Vet on Friday (21ST) around 7:30AM...to get spayed. I was allowed to pick them both up around 4PM that same evening. I arrived PROMPTLY at 4PM.

The Vet told me that they were kept together after surgery (AWESOME !! ) and were doing great.

One of the Vet Techs...brought them both out. Sunshine took two steps outta the exam room door......and vomited. Then, she vomited in the car...and pretty much the rest of the night.

Midnight also vomited...but, only a few times total.

They BOTH would NOT eat...even though their last feeding was at around 4PM Thursday evening.

I called the Vet immediately after Sunshine got sick the third time. They said that it was normal.

** Is it NORMAL to have a 6 month old Corgi puke around a dozen times after she gets spayed ?? **

They BOTH were shaking pretty badly. I tried several times to feed them...but no luck. Then, I tried several times to give them their half tablet of pain pills. Again...no luck. Finally, I had to force the tablet into their throat. It made me ~~~cry~~~......but, it worked !! I finally got them to stay down. Eventually, both Midnight & Sunshine fell asleep. The shaking STOPPED !! ( Yippie !!! )

** They both woke up around 7PM...and I fed them around a half cup each of their Nutro Ultra Puppy Food. Sunshine kept it down...but, now it was Midnight's turn to hurl. (yuck !!! )

----------------------------------------------------------------------
They are doing AWESOME today (Saturday) !!! They both ate 4oz. of their food and are walking around pretty well. I put a baby gate at the bottom of my stairs to stop them from going up. I am taking them outside only on their leash.

No more vomit...and no more shaking girlies !!!

~~~whew~~~ What a horrible & traumatic experience...for my girls and also for me ! I am so very glad....that we all only have to go through this...ONCE !!!
( sorry so long...I tend to talk alot. )
I am sorry you had a traumatic time, I would have been very concerned as well. I am glad they are feeling better.
Smile *~* The WORST...is over !
*~* Midnight & Sunshine are doing fine. The WORST part...is over !
They are not licking the stitches...at all. So far...so far.
However, I had to go purchase 2 pairs of Infant Booties (socks) and put them on their hind legs. They were both scratching their bellies where their hair was shaved. There are some pretty RAW area on their bellies !!
All is good...now. They seem to not even mind having baby booties on their hind legs !!! They both prance around like they are, "Miss Thang(s)" !!!
Silly girlies...
Well,
The first night with Cody's neutering was not the best - This is a dog that
has never whined in his crate since we got him until last night. I heard him
and thought "it must be morning", only to look at my clock and see that it
was 1 a.m. Went down to see what whas wrong and his onesis was completely off - I took him outside to go potty thinking maybe he really
needed to poop or something, but all he did was pee.
He is still trying to get to his stitches. I once again put on a clean onesis,
put him back in his crate and gave him a small treat and went back to bed;
about 1 hour later, he was whining again and once again, his onesis was
off - I don't know how he wiggled out of it, but I got a size 3T and the neck
part is 1/4 of the way down his back.
Anyway, I just decided to grab some blankets and lay down on the family
room floor with him - put his leash on and put the end on my ankle(can you
see that now) - anyway, he snuggled in and gave me lots of kisses, but Oh,
I just wanted some sleep - got a couple of hours - just like being up with a sick kid.
I am off soon to look for another article of clothing that will work better. I
am thinking of a kids sleeper(summer fabric) with the zipper, that I can turn
around and have the zipper up the back. I may have to cut the leg and arms
off, but I think this may work better than the onesis and I should be able to
get a bigger size - I shall see - and I am going to try and catch a cat nap
today.
I am hoping I don't have to do the floor sleeping thing again tonight and I don't want him to think this will continue after he is feeling better. Poor little
guy
I decided to try the Huggies Little swimmers for Cody - they fit well, have
a stretchable waist and are not binding - he is keeping them on and they are
not sliding down.
The vets office also suggested rolling up a thin towel and putting it around
their neck and then taping the ends together; this would prohibit them also
from being able to reach and lick their incision - just another idea.
Cody did better last night, slept in his crate without getting me up during the
night, however, he has been vomiting. The doctor gave me some Rimadyl
to use for 3 days - 1 pill every 12 hours,(for pain) but he has vomited after giving him the medication.
I have not given him any rimadyl this morning, so he has not had a pill since
6 p.m. last night, but he did vomit again this morning. I did call the vet to
see what I should do or feed him - I know Science Hill has the ID food which
I have and is used for dogs with Tummy upset. I will keep you posted.
We are having monsoon type rain here today and are supposed to have wind
gusts to 50 mph this afternoon which makes pottying fun and keeping his
incision dry a challenge.
POOR CODY! I hope he feels better soon! I used a onesie (and a lot of redirection! ) on Jackie when she was spayed & it worked out ok. But I could tell she was SOO uncomfortable with her stitches. PS - you are a wonderful mom for staying with him through the night. I hope he gives you something nice for Mommy's Day!
