Thumbs up Finally He is home - 04-19-2006, 08:23 PM

I have talked very much about my puppy that we did not have. We picked him up Monday. Our one dog, Belle-a German Shepard mix, is adjusting well unless she is tired! Tinker, a chow/lab mix, on the other hand is not so sure about the puppy but all in due time. Tinker was once bitten by another dog so she will take some extra time. Pockets thinks he is the big dog of the house. There are of course some bad habits that came with him but we will break them! (shoes and rugs being the first obstacle! ) So far only 1 accident in the house so that is going well. He goes to the front door and we have about 3 seconds but hey that is better than nothing right! Ironically my nepew is potty training so we have about the same amount of time with him! Pockets slept on my husbands shoulder most of the way home which was adorable. Everytime we would move him down he crawled back up there. Not sre what that was! Pockets is not real fond of the 10 month old nephew but also expected that since neither know how they can react to the other yet! I previously mentioned a 'yodel' the breeder told me about and needless to say he does it. It is very cute except at the 5 am time frame! All in all we are doing great though! Thought I would share our first days!

Pockets - what a name - sounds and looks adorable. As you might know, boys are more affectionate than girls in Corgis so Pockets was just getting an inch or two closer to where the real cuddles region is - re his ride to his new home. And he was also keen on as much comforting as possible in being whisked away from his mother etc.

He sounds like a normal Corgi who adapts quick and learns quicker than it seems possible to do the right things and will tryout chewing what you don't want to be chewed until he/she is forcefully presented with the things they can chew on a continuous basis.

A yodelling Corgi sounds like a talent you can capitalise on.

I already had a Peter Pan theme going with Tinker and Belle so we played with some names and Pockets is actually a Lost boy in the movie Hook. Since he is the only boy until my hubby is out of the military I thought the name was fitting. He is doing well on all accounts though! Thanks for the congrats!

Almost forgot, he is 8 weeks. I know young according to this website! I think he will be ok with other dogs to learn from as well though. The picture is from his 6 weeks old atch but will update soon.

[]Thanks for the update on Pockets. He looks so cute and has great coloring. Your input of what puppyhood is like in your home will help others to work their way through the same. Good luck with potty training. Better you than me, I say.

Pockets is too young to have bad habits that came with him, that's like saying your baby nephews have bad habits. Think of him rather as a blank slate learning and exploring the world (and puppies will chew as a way to explore the world). They will also chew at teething time just like some human babies will bite when they are teething. At this point it is training -teaching him rugs and shoes are NOT appropriate chew toys. This keeps the behavior from becoming a bad habit which would need to be broken later.

Enjoy him!

Debbie,

I agree with you. Cody used to steal slippers and laundry when we first
got him - typical puppy behavior, and he learned that it was not appropriate
to do that.

*~* I have 2 Pembroke Corgis'. They are almost 7 months old. They are sisters. I got them both spayed on Friday (21st).

I am so extremely, "In Love" with this breed...and I wanna try to (maybe) adopt an older Corgi. I want to rescue an 8 month old or older Corgi.

I really...have no preference whether I receive a female or a male.
