Peggy
I've been tieing a knot in a handtowel with a couple of ice cubes inside the knot for him to chew on ever since he started teething. He also does have tons of different chew toys he loves.

This is just one stubborn little tooth. It's still there today and I have tried a couple of times to get it out. It's loose but must still have a lot of root that didn't dissolve. I've tried wrapping a damp towel around my finger and rubbing, and tried Charlie's toothbrush with the poultry flavored toothpaste.

I think it must be sore and irritating him...he's been abnormally nippy and snappy the last couple of days since I noticed the retained tooth. Not really bad nippy, but noticeable.

the same thing happened to peanut the other week! one day i was wiggling his puppy tooth and the next day i saw the adult tooth start growing infront of the puppy tooth. I admit, it freaked me out- I didn’t want to think about puppy braces. lol. i put tons of chew toys in front of peanut and a few days later, viola - disappeared! no need to be worried, charlie knows what to do!

I hope so, and I am a worry wart over "everything about Charlie". LOL It's just that every other tooth fell out, no problem, then a couple days later the "big" replacement tooth starting to show.

This one tooth "hanging on" is kind of freaking me out because it looks painful. ...and I don't want to have to find a doggy orthodontist either!

You won't need an orthodontist! If need be you could have your vet pull it. Chances are all he'll need is a pair of forcepts and minutes time. I've pulled some teeth of my own puppies this way. (Yes, they were loose.)

If it's loose it probably only needs a day or two more. If not out by the time the new tooth is coming in then take him in and have the vet pull it.

That was the problem...the new tooth was in, but the baby tooth seems firmly rooted but pushed backward into the roof of his mouth.

Anyway, I'm happy to report that the tooth finally came out this morning. He has a visible hole in the roof of his mouth where the tooth was, but the skin looks healthy so I think we're back to normal. (Until the next thing I find to worry over. )

I still have a mental image of Peanut and Charlie playing, then smiling at each other, with the sunshine catching a twinkle of "metal mouth" braces on their teeth. LOL

Lol me too! They seem like fraternal twins separated be a few states. They those two have grown up so much and experienced many things at nearly the same time!

Last month, Peanut lost a canine tooth. It broke off that the gum line. I’ve been keeping my eye on it to ensure it doesn’t get infected. They say canine teeth are the last to fall out, usually around 5 or 6 months. Has Charlie’s fallen out yet?

Huh. That's interesting...I read too that the canines were supposed to be the last.

The same day the "problem" tooth fell out after hanging on for days, Charlie knocked out 3 more incisors playing soccer. All of a sudden the soccer ball was covered in blood and I thought he had bitten his tongue. Looked in his mouth and 3 more teeth were gone! He lost the last incisor a couple days later.

Right now all his puppy premolars, molars and canines are still intact.

He loves having his teeth brushed with poultry-flavored toothpaste!

Charlie is now losing his premolars...in fact I just pulled one out that was just barely hanging in there flopping around. He's also cutting his top canines, but his puppy canines don't seem to be loose at all. Hopefully they will push out normally.

Is Peanut doing the same? How is his broken canine doing?

Peanut's canine hasn't grown in yet, so he's still missing his top left canine tooth. Over the weekend we bought Peanut a bully stick, and as he was chewing i noticed something come out of his mouth. It was part of a molar that came out (the molar must have crack), a few min later I stepped on the other molar half.

slowly but surely those baby teeth are coming out! one by one

All 4 of Charlie's canines are coming in now, but 3 of his baby canines are still there and don't feel loose. He did lose one of his uppers. His other upper baby canine is behind his adult canine, and his lower adult canines are inside the baby canines, coming in under his tongue. I'm a bit concerned about this. The vet tech told me not to worry about it, but they would want to pull any baby teeth that have not fallen out by 7 months. That's still a month and a half away. I'm not sure I should wait that long.

I'd give him a few more weeks at least. Chances are they will come out. Give him lots of things to chew on.

He's got tons of different chew toys. This weekend, I bought him two new types of chew snacks which I hoped he would tear at with his canines. Unfortunately, both new treats (pretty much empty calories/not much nutrition) went immediately to be ground down with his molars. That just made him more picky about eating his regular puppy food.

I did replace his tug-n-floss rope with a new one and we're playing more tug of war. He will tug on the stringy ends with his canines. Hopefully they'll come out soon. I've read several websites which recommend having any puppy teeth removed as soon as the adult teeth erupt (not waiting it out). As usual, I'm probably worrying too much.

Are his adult canines comeing in next to the puppy teeth? If so and they're not loose then yes, I'd be looking into having them pulled.

The tug toy should help too. Good luck, I hope they loosen and come out soon!

Yes he now has adult and puppy canines (for over a week), minus only one puppy canine which came out last week.

Here is a shot of his upper with the puppy canine behinds the adult canine:
And a shot where his adult lower canines have erupted under his tongue:

None of his remaining puppy canines feel even slightly loose.

Ok, despide your vet's advice, I'd be looking into getting those pulled. The adult teeth are in quite a bit and if the puppy teeth aren't loose I'd be getting worried.

His bottom canines are in too far. If you remove the puppy canines they might move into the place where they belong. I'd be taking out the bottom puppy canines at the very least.
