First Puppy Tooth Gone -
10-19-2007, 10:23 AM
Well we're celebrating Charlie's 4 month birthday today (guess I'll quit counting in weeks). Sometime between yesterday and this morning when I checked his teeth, he has lost his first puppy tooth on the bottom.
They grow up so fast..... <sigh>

That scrapbook is a nice idea. Charlie probably ate his first tooth, because it just totally disappeared overnight! LOL

A fairy will always leave a treat for a Corgi who has lost a baby tooth. It is ok for a kind owner to assist in this age old tradition.

I've invited the Puppy Tooth Fairy to move into our house for a couple months. He lost two more teeth (the top center incisors) just today.
Hey, I've got a snaggle-toothed, Jack-0-Lantern lookin' Corgi....just in time for Halloween! Maybe he and the Tooth Fairy can go out for trick-or-puppy-treats. Hmmmm....Treats!!!

Over the weekend, Peanut got his last parvo and rabies shot. Our vet (who's conveniently my bf's older sister) pointed out Peanut lost a baby tooth! Ever since I'v been getting Peanut use to opening his mouth and inspecting his teeth.
The vet said to wait about 5-7 days before introducing Peanut to the public, that way his body will fully immunize.
I've been keeping my eye out for dog parks, so far I have seen-
- large dog park, not enclosed
- dog park enclosed and divided between large dogs and smaller dogs
- grass dog parks
- dirt dog parks

Tooth Care -
10-22-2007, 01:28 PM
When I was researching breeds, then zeroed in on corgi, I read that around one year, corgis can start to develop serious tartar on their teeth. (This is probably true of all dog breeds, but the corgi websites seemed to emphasize tooth tartar as a significant corgi problem.)
Because of that, I've been looking in Charlie's mouth every day and brushing his teeth 2-3 times a week. Even though he will lose all his puppy teeth, I want him to think it's normal for humans to want to look into his mouth. Hopefully it will make vet visits easier, and save some money by cleaning his teeth at home versus having to have anesthesia for a veterinarian dental cleaning. He loves the poultry flavored doggie toothpaste!
Charlie will be losing a 4th tooth today. His other lower center incisor is very loose. So he'll be without four teeth in four days. I hope that's normal...I also don't see any "big dog" teeth trying to peep through yet either.
On off-leash parks: We have 12 of them in my city. Charlie and I are going to one that is fenced in with a separate small dog section on November 11. I think the only reason this park is fenced is that it is right next to an Interstate Hwy. We just this morning scheduled his last shots for Nov 1.

We have small and large parks availabler for dogs but none are fully enclosed.
Dirt parks for dogs would be a poor choice but I guess in sone parts of the world grass is difficult to grow with the hot climates and lack of rain or management.
Hey, this will make some people envious. A two-three minute drive from my house and you're on the river trail - 20 miles with dogs allowed off-leash and incorporating a river and many streams suitable for swimming, several well grassed parks with three of them very large (again dogs allowed off-leash), bush/forest walks, a beach and sand. I live within a radius of four cities with the furtherest away, a 20 minute drive.

over the weekend, peanut lost 2 bottom teeth "my 2 front teeth!". I first noticed 1 front tooth gone at puppy preschool and the other tooth missing when we got home from school. During puppy school i was wondering why his treats kept on slipping out of his mouth! hehe, now i know!

LOL! Charlie managed to "gum 'em down" without teeth!
He now has 4 "big dog" teeth coming in top and bottom center. This week he's has lost one more tooth, and has 3 that are loose.
Downside on the teething...we're doing a little training review, "No, my arms are not your favorite chew toy."
I'll also be looking for your update on puppy kindergarten....inquiring minds want to know!

I noticed that Charlie has retained one puppy tooth today. The "big dog" tooth has pushed out in front of the puppy tooth and the loose puppy tooth is hanging on behind it. I've tried to get in his mouth and just pull it, but it is clearly irritating him and he "clamps down".
Anyone have a good suggestion for getting the puppy tooth out without losing a finger? Or should I just wait a day or two and see if it will fall out on its own like all the other puppy teeth have?
