fetch till you drop - 11-02-2007, 11:51 AM

Hi everyone

Just curious to know what everyone’s corgi likes to do.

Peanut will play fetch till he drops! Literally!
Out of the crate- play fetch ….
Before and after eating- play fetch ….
Before and after walks- play fetch ….
Before and after naps- play fetch..
even when I’m on the internet or paying bills- play fetch!

This guy is non stop!
Peanut has already gone through a hand full of balls, and I plan on going to the pet store this evening to get more. =)

At least his active personality will keep me on my toes and active too!

Hee hee! Good for Peanut! I wish Charlie would fetch. I get a lot of exercise fetching for him!

His outside toys include small & med tennis balls, baseballs, 2 sizes of Jolly balls, a Wiggly Giggly ball, and a soccer ball. His favorite outside toys though are an empty half-gallon plastic milk jug and sticks off the trees.

I throw a toy. He runs and grabs it and takes it way out in the yard to chew on. So I throw another toy, and he "herds" it into his pile way out in the yard. Once he has herded all his toys into a pile in the yard, he finds a stick to lay down and chew on. Later while he's asleep in the house, I go outside and "fetch" all his toys back up to the covered patio. LOL

good for Charlie! so tidy and neat!
Peanut loves empty water bottles- he likes to bite them and the squeeking plastic sound it makes.

Peanut's toys are scattered all over the place. Ive accidentally stepped on many walking through the house at night.

Duncan does fetch for a while with me. With my husband, they have different types of games. He'll bring to my husband, set it down in front of him and as soon as my husband reaches for it, he grabs it. Or, setting it down, turning his head like he isn't paying any attention, then grab it the split second before my husband does. Or, bring it to my husband, set it down, and then put his paw on it to keep him from getting the toy.
He also thinks that he HAS to take a toy everytime he goes outside, just like Charlie, but never has them in a neat pile. I have gotten him almost to bringing one back each time he goes in; but he drops it in the kitchen floor as soon as he is through the door. (sigh) Guess you can't have everything. So now, instead of a pile of toys in the yard, they're all in the kitchen, right in front of the door.

Molsen loves to fetch ... Miller loves to run after Molsen Fetch with some coaching remarks on the way to and from the ball!

It is good to have a way to tire the little buggers out! Go Peanut!

Nick loves fetch. He has a weekness for tennis balls. He actually sleeps next to his tennis ball so we can play first thing in the morning. Next time give peanut a little challenge. Throw a few balls on the ground and see how he figures it out. Nick usually grabs one ball in his mouth and on his return kicks the remainder back to me for more fun.

It took him about a month. He first started doing it inside then once he perfected his technique he introduced to all the neighborhood dogs. My wife and I also use the tennis balls to for training. For example if we want him to stop doing something (like chewing the rug) we say "get your ball" and he will stop what he is doing and bring a tennis ball over to whoever said the command. It's a great trick for distraction. Of course that means you have to play fetch with him though.

That really is a cool "trick" for Nick to kick the extra balls back! Since Charlie doesn't retrieve, but carries his toys away from me to put in a pile, I often throw out a second toy before he has "placed" the first toy in his pile. He's so funny. He'll run to the second toy with the first toy in his mouth. You can see him thinking really hard, "Let's see, to pick up toy 2, I have to drop toy 1." After a few seconds he chooses which toy to take to the pile first, then goes after the next.

I envy all of you who have Corgis that retrieve...one or multiples!
