Smile Tri or Red? - 01-20-2008, 12:34 PM

I've posted a few photos of our lit' Audrey and I've always wondered if she's considered a tri or red pembroke. The breeder that we bought from said that she's a red but because of her markings,....some further black may develop as she gets older. She's about 9 months right now and we've noticed that her winter coat has brought in some black on her back. Just wondering if anyone might know. Thanks.

She looks red to me, but if she starts to get more black tips at the ends of her red fur, she's a sable. My Charlie has a sable head and a red coat at 7 months. Right now I'm calling him a "sable-headed red".

Definitely not tri. I see hints that indicate sable maybe. Interesting mask (the black around her muzzle), not "rare" in Pembrokes, but not something seen too often anymore. More readily seen in Cardigans.

I'm unsure of what defines a "sable", does it mean that there's a bit of dark/black on the back? Yeah...her lit' mask is cute...she's like a lit' bandit. Thanks for your comments!

Yes, sable is a red-based coat with black tips. Charlie had the black tips from head to tail when I got him. His adult coat is coming in deep red with no black tips on his body. His head and tail still have the sable coloring.

It's really interesting how much a Corgi's coat can change in color during their first year.
