Potty Training Going Well - 02-07-2008, 01:57 PM

We live in an upstairs apartment, so it was a little hard to get Waeryn potty-trained because when she has to go we have to take her all the way down the stairs rather than just opening a door and letting her out. I am proud to say that she has not had an accident in the house for a little over 2 weeks, and I'm not sure when her last accident before that was. Today she actually scratched on the door to be let out for the first time which I am SO happy about.

Whitney

Way to go Waeryn - you must be so proud. How old is she now?

Awesome for you...we have the opposite...we live down and have to go up...its a mad race as im sure you know...and of course colby never makes any noise to signal he just sits by the gate...so what does cammie do, same darned thing...it keeps us on our toes for sure...cant wait for spring when we can put the doggie door on the garage and they can go in and out at their leisure in the nice weather...anyone have any experience with that??

we arent sure if we will leave them out when we are not home...jamies mom is home all day so if something were going wrong in the yard, shed see it and even if she doesnt want to admit it, she is a busy body and she loves the dogs....but we are not sure...it will be more for when we are home and puttering in the yard etc???

any advice??? sorry to jump on your post....

we are also working on the potty training but have been having issues due to the coccidia and girardia, which make her have to pp more i guess, so if she slips up its not entirely her doing as she may not be able to help it...cant wait till next week when hopefully we will be all cleared up of all this sickness....

She's 4mos old now. I think the potty training would have gone better if we had a different living situation though.

I'm not sure how to picture that...is your yard up a hill or something like that?

I know, it makes it so much easier when they let you know that they need to go. That way you don't have to keep guessing. We tend to go out too often just in case.

If I had someone willing to check on her several times throughout the day (and if I even had a yard, haha) I would maybe consider leaving her outside when she was older, but I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable even then. It would have to depend on the person who would be checking in on her

Waeryn had loose bowels for a couple of days several weeks ago and went to the bathroom in her crate and I felt so bad for her. I hope everything gets better for you guys next week!

I would love to have a doggie door for Charlie, but my back door has a glass inset (like a French door) so I'd have to change the entire door. Since I'm home working, we go out about every couple hours so he has never peed or pooped in the house.

Congrats Whitney on Waeryn's progress!
