The Breeder called Biscuit's coat color a clear red or light red. He also has some blue in his eyes. His parents are a blue merle and a tricolor so his color was a suprise. They think he may be genetically a blue merle.

Isn't he a doll?

I believe Liz said Biscuit was a clear red and it is a different red than most would be used to seeing in either breed of corgis. I had a fun discussion on this color last week with a couple of Cardigan breeders. Okay, I'll put out the warning sign now - technical mumbo jumbo and genetics to follow.

It has recently been discovered in Cardigans that there are two different color reds in their genetic soup. The one red is darker and what we are used to seeing in Pembrokes and most Cardigans. The other one was called chinchilla and dogs were referred to as "pinks." <http://www.phi-vestavia.com/colors2.htm> Since the Phi-Vestavia page was published the "pinks" have been clarified as being "little e" reds through a genetic study conducted. All Cardigans with this coloration can be traced back to one English import b*tch, including Biscuit. He is the offspring of a Blue to a Black breeding, colors which are not supposed to be able to produce red. HOWEVER, here's little Biscuit. The thing with the recessive modifier dilutes is they pop up and surprise! It will be fun watching him grow up.
