Well, Dudley's ears are now straight out to the side, so since he is 14 weeks old now, I guess I will have to do the taping. The only thing is we have to board him at a kennel on Saturday and I don't really want to take him out in public like this. Not to mention I don't know if he will scratch at them and in a kennel there will be no one to stop him. Should I wait until afterwards or try it today and just take it off Saturday morning? Would that even be long enough?

Jeni,
Sorry to hear Dudley's ears are not cooperating. We were told to tape Ace's ears for a week or so at a time, but we only lasted 3 days because we felt bad for Ace. We also worried about taking him out in public looking like an astronaut or something with all that duct tape on his head! I would say try taping his ears until Saturday morning. I don't think it would hurt anything. I guess use the moleskin then try masking tape with a little duct tape on top to protect everything? By the way, we got our moleskin at Walgreens Drug store in the Dr. Scholls foot care area. It comes in a yellow package that is about 3" x 5" or so. I think I saw some at Wal-mart as well. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out! Jim and Bethany |

We ended up trying the taping method, thinking along the same lines as you, that we would try it until Saturday morning. Are Ace's ears still standing upright? The tape actually doesn't seem to be bothering him (he's actually sleeping right now) but it just doesn't look like it would be comfortable to me. Hopefully this will work so we don't have to do it again. Jeni |

Jeni,
Ace's ear is still standing! When he looks at us both ears are perfectly up and adorable. Sometimes when he is sleeping or pushing his ears back (when he is excited) the ear we taped goes back a little and has a slight bend to it. We notice it but others do not. It builts character! Good luck Dudley!! We hope it works. Jim and Bethany |

Well, I ended up taking the tape off of Dudley's ears. He was completely miserable, constantly scratching at them and whining and then when he couldn't get to his ears, he started biting his leg instead. He had actually rubbed one ear raw where he kept rubbing at it with his big front paw. So, I've decided that I would rather have him have floppy ears than be miserable. If they decide to come up, great, if not, I'll love him just the same with his ears sticking straight out the side of his head...gives him character I think
![]() Just out of curiosity, do some cardigans have thicker ears than others? I know when I look at pictures of pembroke pictures their ears seem smaller than cardis, at least when they are puppies. Dudley's ears just seem really thick and heavy. Could this be a reason they have trouble coming up or is this a characteristic of all cardis? |

![]() Pembroke ears can have the same type variation in thickness and size and one goes through the same nail biting , but generally speaking; they're ears are smaller than Cardigans. Debbie |

Jeni,
Ace has thick ears as well. We did not realize that until someone on gocorgi mentioned Ace's ears had a lot of leather. We weren't sure what that meant at the time but understand now. That is why his ear had trouble coming up too. When we talked to our breeder about it, she said the sire had thick ears as well and they ended up shaving his ears then taping them to make them lighter. There was no way we were doing that! We were worried and decided it didn't matter same as you, but his ear decided to cooperate with the taping. We will send positive thoughts Dudley's way that his ear will perk up. Jim and Bethany

Both of Dudley's ears have been up for two days straight. They are standing straight up with no creases or anything. He looks like a different dog. We had to board him at the kennel this weekend so I expected to pick him up to find droopy ears, but sure enough, when he came running out to greet me, I saw the ears first!

Thanks guys! Still up today going strong so I am cautiously optimistic
![]() "Great news for you Jeni, and how did Dudley do with his boarding?" Dudley's boarding went pretty good. He didn't eat, which I expected because he doesn't eat when he's away from home, and I heard him before I saw him (I asked the vet tech there and he said that he had barked most of the time.) The vet tech had only been there for about an hour to give Dudley a bath before he came home. My guess is that Dudley was only barking for that time not the ENTIRE time we were gone. All I know is that I HATED leaving him, but I knew he would be in good hands (They love him there!) I'll have to leave him one more time in July because I have to go to a wedding and that will be a two night stay. My mom volunteered to watch him though, so I might take her up on the offer. She's such a good grandma to Dudley

How old was Dudley when his ears finally came up??
I have a Pembroke Corgi, Payton, and his ears are sticking straight out to the side. They came up at about 11 weeks, but then fell to the side. He's about to hit 14 weeks, so I'm not sure if I should tape or not. |

Dudley's ears stayed up at about 14-15 weeks. We did end up having to tape them for a few days to finally get them to stand. Payton sounds like he is on his way since they are sticking out to the side. When we taped Dudley's ears, one was completely bent. Maybe someone with more "ear" experience can give you some advice on whether or not you should tape. Let me know if you need anything else! Good luck!
