Chip's new weight
I took Chip to the Vet yesterday for an abrasion on his side. He is fine and it was nothing serious. The Vet thought it may have been a bug bite and Chip scratched it. Anyway, he now weighs 16.2 lbs and is 19 weeks old. His weight gain has slowed down considerably but he looks good and is filling out some.

Is Chip more of a smaller size Corgi? Cody gained weight steadily until he reached the 6 month old mark and now it has slowed down considerably. He will be 7 months old next weekend and is 23.5 pounds. He was 23.3 pounds at 6 months old, so has only gained a very small amount in one month.

I am not sure. His mom weighs 19 lbs and Dad weighs 24 - 25 lbs. But it looks like he is slowing down on his weight gain now. but he looks real good and not thin at all. I don't think he has grown much in height lately just length.

If his mom weighs 19 pounds, she is on the smaller size for a female Corgi.
My other Corgi who was female, was in the 23 to 24 pound range and I know my cody was 19 pounds when he was 5 months old. Sounds like your Chip will be more on the petite size for a male Corgi. Linda |

I will have to measure Cody and see how tall he is right now - I watch his
weight pretty carefully; I have to remember when we practice his tricks, and he gets his treats, to cut back on his kibble at meal time. It is way too easy to overfeed them. But, yes, I think your Chip will be on the smaller size. His dad sounds like he was a bit on the smaller size for a male also. Great things come in small packages!! Linda |

Bonnie,
Chip looked good to me at the picnic in both weight and size for his age. If he is coming from smaller sized corgis down the line, then he'll likely stay on the smaller side. ![]() Debbie |

Thanks Debbie. We'll see how much he weighs when he is neutered in another month. Hopefully, no more vet visits for awhile. I felt rather foolish when the Vet said it was "just an abrasion" to me it was a major catasthropy but then I didn't see my regular vet who knows I am a worrier.
