Linda - I think we are talking cross purposes. Dogs are not like children - action has to be instant otherwise the message is lost. One of the most basic training of dogs is "punishment" and scolding - its got to be done at the instant of the discretion otherwise the dog has no idea at any later stage what he/she is meant to have done or is being punished/scolded for - as much as we like to think they do.

What I said in my last post is a direct follow up to the incorrect premise that if you ignore dogs they will come round to your point of view or if you take time to make up with a dog, he/she will be sorry for what they did wrong - as Gailkate had inferred, I believe.
