Keeping Ears Clean
I just have a quick question. What is a safe way to clean out the ears of my 4mo. old corgi pup? I noticed the other day that he's got some build-up and he's been scratching at his ears. I just wanted to make sure I did it safely! Thanks!

I use Drs. Foster & Smith "Ear Clens" pads. They are pre-moistened little pads that you can use to wipe out the ears. They work really well, and I have never had any problems. www.drsfostersmith.com
I hope he doesn't have an ear infection. Sometimes water gets in the ears while swimming, and can't find its way back out, and can cause the canine version of "swimmer's ear". Maybe I'm just an overprotective Mom (MAYBE!?! HA!), but you might want to have a vet look at it, just to make sure he's not suffering from something other than dirty ears. |

Thi may be a 'bad' response. Taylor is three years and a bit and I have only cleaned his ears once. And I only did it then because of this site having discussed it. He really did not need to have them cleaned. I used baby wipes because they are nice and moist and effective in cleansing and do not contain anything harmful to a dog's internal part of his ears.

Zoe and Tab have always had clean ears--thank goodness for I hate cleaning out ears. However when Zoe turned 14 she started growing a wart in one of her ears and I have to constantly clean out that ear for it really collects the dirt now. I've had vets look at it and other than doing my best to keep it clean there is not much else to do.
I just use a Q tip and gently clean out the ears as the vets have shown me how. The moist pads work great too. Linda
