Ace is 8 months old and weighs 32 lbs. We tried to measure him but he did not like the measuring tape. He is around 13 inches tall and 19 inches long. We've been slowly decreasing Ace's food intake and plan to take him off puppy food soon. We know Ace still has growing to do but we want to make sure he doesn't gain much more.

Ok Debbie - I would go with the 11 1/2 inch height corgi male because of the height. I would think that the puppies would maintain a height that fits the standard. The weight may be because of to many treats, etc. I am thinking the more you breed higher in height the taller the puppies will be when they are grown. Is it true to maintain a standard, you have to stay within the standard unless you get a throw back. Let me know if I am wrong.

I just measured Chip and he isn't quite 11 inches at the top of his shoulder blades and he is either 17 or 19 inches from where his tail begins at his fanny and to where his neck begins at his shoulders. He didn't like the yardstick so he wouldn't hold completely still. LOL So if I measured correctly then Chip's size is ok and the 16 inches would be right??

Reba is 12 1/2 years old and she's about 28 lbs. and Jesse is 9 months old and he is about 16 pounds (I think he's a bit skinny).

Thanks T-Gal. The only thing is - it doesn't take an Einstein to figure that one out so I am really not brilliant after all. When I was calling the breeders that was one of the first questions I asked about the parents after temperment, etc was their weight as I wanted a corgi that I would still be able to lift when I get old eeeer (that is supposed to be a stutter) LOL

I don't think I quite get what this comment means. Dudley doesn't look "uncomfortable" in any way. He is about 19 inches long and 12 inches high.

THis is interesting because so many people have a different perception of weight to height and length on a Corgi.
At 13 in and 21in (Darci) would seem to be too light at 26 lbs; at 14in and 23in (Rupert) is definitely a biggy and at 40 lbs therefore he most likely carries it well. Shelly who owns 9 months old Jesse says that Jesse is only 16 lbs and if she is of a normal size, 16 lbs seems very much on the light side - it's easy to put weight on a Corgi.

I rechecked Taylor and while he is 13 inches in height, his length is actually 18 inches and not 19 inches. Sorry Debbie!

Jeni-D said her Dudley "has some filling out to do." And I equated this to meaning he is not of a comfortable weight at present - so I used the word 'uncomfortable' in that sense.

Hayashi - A 13kg you won't be able to fit Buta in a barrel!!!!!!! But 13kg is just under 29 lbs, so I guess it is an ok weight at present though I would imagine she could lose 2-5 lbs and still look great.

Especially when one doesn't want to. But before advising who should weight what, other factors need to be taken into consideration such as overall size and proportion, amount of bone, age, for example.

So he's still oversized to the standard.

I interpreted it as meaning, he's young and he's got filling out to do in the sense of his chest dropping and overall maturing, not really weight related.
