Sophie is 4+ months and 13.6 lbs (at the last vet visit and will update on the 4th I think).... Seems small after reading this entire thread. Has anyone actually compiled a 'general' size age weight for corgis somewhere?
My girls' mother was a small-ish dog but her father was perfect 'to standard' as far as stats go. Wish I could meet that boy, I only have a picture. ~Pam~ |

The rule of thumb on corgi puppies is about a pound per week. At 4 months +/- (16 weeks), she should be in the 16 pound range. Now overall size, balance, amount of bone are also factors, so a couple pounds less or even over is still well within a healthy range. Debbie |

Good that you are concerned - some Corgi owners are yet do nothing about it when their Corgis are overweight. Pretty simple to remedy. Corgi pups should be a little podgy but the greatest threat to ill health and a shortend life, is overweight. Underweight can also be a problem - but I have yet to see an underweight Corgi. I'm sure Glencorgi has though.

The puppy mill puppy that Chip's breeder rescued was 8 months old and 12 lbs. Can you imagine. Poor little thing. He wouldn't even eat in front of her. Waited until at night time when nobody was around and then he wouldn't eat much. Now he is putting on weight and doing much better.

Cindy:
When she originally took him in she was in hopes of finding him a home but now he has bonded with her so she is going to keep him. She rocks him to sleep at night and he will wag his tail at her and bark some and eat out of her hand. He is a beautiful tri baby but very very small. He had been in a kennel all his life - so sad. I had a pic if I can find it, I will email it to you.

Wicca is 11.5 inches tall and weighs 22lbs...
Sam is 11 and 3/4 inches tall and weighs 25lbs... I don't know how long they are though....may have to measure now,... Sam is actaully the "thinner" of the two- he is a bit bigger so his weight is more evenly distributed. Wicca can be a bit chunky sometimes, all it takes is a few extra mouthfuls of kibble and she seems to get a belly. But both of them you can see ribs, and a tummy tuck. Wicca's brother (who is more "showy" than Wicca) is about 12.5 inches tall and weighs almost 40lbs. He still has a wasteline but he is a much bigger dog. And Wicca's dad is 48lbs...(last time I asked anyway...) http://www.geocities.com/bluetrixcardigans (he is on the front page) interesting the weight and height differences... -amanda

After having Wendy for about two months now, I am finally going to post on this thread.
I am proud to say ... (drum roll, please) that she has dropped four pounds!!! She was 40 lbs. (11 inches high) when she first came to us, and she weighed in at 36 at the vet's this weekend! She looks better, acts more energetic and I think she feels better too. Stay tuned for more progress! |
