Miller had a weird reaction to shrimp ... He did not eat it, but he decided to roll on it and walk away. He did the same thing with Black and Green Olives.

Molsen eats shrimp and likes to roll olives across the floor the eat them.

Has any one else had this happen with food? I know if they find something outside that is smelly, they roll in it (like stinky turkey poop ) Bur I have never seem one do it with food.

Needless to say ... We do not feed Miller Olives and Shrimp.

I live with horses and ducks-my dogs are always finding something interesting to roll in. Heck last night Moose came in with a green ring around his neck - guess he had been in the barn for awhile as had the horses.

Mine don't have a food persay, just lovely farm and pasture items to delight my senses.

Why dogs roll in stinky stuff - 09-12-2007, 12:34 PM

I read that dogs roll in yucky smelly stuff to cover their own scent from prey. This goes back to their wolf origins when the pack hunted for food. Rolling in "dead" items and other smelly things would allow them to sneak up on their prey without their own natural odor being detected by their "chosen dinner". Smelling like a wolf (instead of dead fish, etc.) would scare off their prey.

You'd think that today with our domesticated dogs getting a nice "pre-killed" dinner in a fresh clean bowl, they'd have gotten over the primal urge to cover their own scent!

One time when I was at the vet's there was a little dog there who had been fed shrimp. He was very sick.

Olives are not a food I would give my Corgi - especially if they are prepared the way they are when brought from a shop/store. The same with shrimps.
I might expect a Corgi with a stomach complaint. So those who refuse to eat these things might be doing themselves a favour

When things hit the floor ...
It is not always easy to stop a Corgi from eating it!

At present I an looking after Alice again and she is a direct contrast with Taylor. Most times, Taylor will ask me, can he have it. Alice will eat anything apart from another dog and a large animal sich as horse, cow, human.
