Pems with Tails - 02-05-2007, 06:13 PM

I saw something odd to me while viewing some members Corgis. Someone named "bec" posted some pics of their pet and it was a Pembroke with a tail!!! I've never seen that before. It was definitely a sable/white Pem with a tail...not a Cardigan. Does this happen often that one will be born with a tail?

Our delightful Pembroke friend, Miss Abby of Australia also has a wonderful tail!

I'll defer to Peggy on the discussion of how Pems can be born with tails of different lengths.

Hi there,

My Pembroke corgi has got the same tail feature, & it's a sable/white too.
Australia has banned docking of tail, so you will get to see more pembroke with tail in the future.

Most Pembrokes are born with tails, the standard calls for docking... however in some countries docking has been banned and you will see the natural tails.

Yeah, & I love my boy's tail, it's so expressive, it just looks like a brush with white tips.

She a beauty alright. Her coloring reminds me of Rupert. Love that little guy! I guess I thought all were born with little or no tails at all...thus the distinction of the Pem and the Cardigan. This is a revelation. I knew about the docking but for some reason, I thought that was bred out of them, so to speak. I don't know how that might be accomplished but, that was my thinking. They're adorable with or without the tail.

Colcolt,

IF you'll check the archives the Pembroke tail has been discussed several times before.

I have never seen a Pem with a tail before this site and I think that they are gorgeous, but I don't think that I could ever imagine Lola without het adorable little stub and butt.......that's like the cutest part to me, that and her adorable little nosey.
I have seen Rotties with tails and let me just tell you, I am glad that Lord doesn't have one otherwise all our legs would be in casts and our walls would need constant fixing up. lol

Just to correct: Australia has not banned docking of Pembroke Corgi tails. In some of the states in Australia, tail docking of dogs is either banned or discouraged.

I am not sure why but recently, all of the Corgis that have been imported from Australia has their tail....but Buta has no tail & I noticed that most of the Corgis of about 2 yrs & above in Singapore has no tail. Maybe they stopped sending in docked Corgis to Singapore.......I prefer them without their tail, I love bunny butts

I love love love love loooovvvvveeeee Corgis!!!
I have discovered Corgis ONLY expand SIDE WAYS.

There are a few Singapore corgi owners here. We are a multicultural bunch.

I am torn on the tail debate. I look at Bec & Abby, and their tails are so pretty - but I just LOVE that bunny butt. Tough call. Corgis are just too darn cute, any way they come - Pem, Cardi, tail, no tail . . . it's all good 2 me. It's the corgi spunk that makes them who they are (IMHO).

PS - love the new avatar Deb - nice shirts!
