German Shepherd With a Wiener Dog - 04-12-2006, 01:58 PM

Here in Minnesota, not a lot of people are familiar with Corgis'. So when people ask me if he is a mutt I jokingly say that he's a cross between a German Shepherd and a Wiener dog. Then I go into the whole history of the breed with them. Our dog "Louie" is such a happy little guy He smiles constantly and loves everybody. He can be a little barky at times but it's usually when he wants something. This is a great website. Thanks

You could say that a Corgi is a cross between a Dachsund and a Collie - because that is getting closer to the truth.

I have met many people here, that know what she is but MORE that don't and ask what kind of mutt I have, asking if it's some kind of weiner dog mix. The next question is 'how old is she?' then 'how big will she get?'.

I very often get asked "how old is he" and "how big will he get" also. This week my daughters friend told me he looked like a Chubby weiner dog - and by the way, Cody is not chubby

I once heard a little girl refer to Milo as a big hamster when we were at a park one day. My sister's father in law didn't believe Milo was a purebred...he had never seen a Corgi before and thought for sure it must be a mutt!

One of my nephews (7-years old) called Zia a barking rabbit at Christmas.

...LOVE those bunny butts!!...

Because ChloeLouise is a FLuffy, I mostly get the "Why does your SHELTIE have such short legs" question...and when I explain she is a Corgi, I get the "WELL, I never saw a Corgi that looked like THAT!" comment...

The worst I have ever heard was when I had to call a guy to come tow my truck once and he said he used to breed dogs just like Checkers... then proceeded to inform me that Basset Hounds and wolves are a good cross. Say what?!?! He had yet to tow my truck so I had to keep my mouth shut until I was out... then I just paid and drove away shaking my head. Baffling.

I once had a man stop his car on the road to ask me if Dudley was a bull terrier mix. I've also gotten asked what my dachsund was crossed with and if Dudley was mixed with some sort of fox. My favorite response is that I paid for him to look this way

that's funny b/c we used to cal hemi a hamster dog because when he was younger there was a stage where his cheeks kind of made him look like a hamster.. Iguess that's why we still call him Ham sometimes b/c he puffs his cheeks out at times hahaha
