Blue eyed Pems? - 10-11-2007, 08:24 AM

hey everyone

I was wondering how common it is to find a Pem with parti colored eyes or blue eyes? When I was living in Naples Fl briefly in 05' one of the puppies that was a sibling to the pup we had got for the farm had a blue eye.. and I've seen some pictures of Pems with blue eyes.

I know it's a genetic fault to the standard but I wasn't sure how often this occurs??

I used to have Siberians, so blue eyes will always intrigue me. I'd love to get a blue eyed boy again.. but looks like it'll have to be a Cardi as I know it's allowed for them.

It is a double recessive mode of inheritance for both breeds of corgis, except in merle Cardigans. Bllue eyes are only acceptable in blue merles for Cardigans, although they do occur in the other colors.

While blue eyes do happen, and I've seen several corgis of both breeds with them (excluding the blue merle CWC's), they don't happen all that often.

My boy's brother had one blue eye. The breeder said she was going to keep him and try and breed blue eyed Pems. That kind of makes me unhappy because she's trying to breed a strain that will be be considered unshowable, etc with the AKC and other kennel clubs.

That breeder needs to be spanked. It is just like the breeders who WANT to produce fluffies or all-white Corgis.

Ah, one of those breeders who breeds for faults and then advertises the puppies as "rare". Not breeding to the standard. Hoping to make extra money by selling a "rare" whatever.

I'm glad your brother has him and she won't be breeding him. Better for the future puppies.

Yeah, that reminds me- my aunt told me that some breeders are trying to breed the smallest corgis possible because that's what the people want, little lap-dog sized corgis because they're "cuter". This could possibily cause health problems... Also, people who want to herd with their dog or show it could end up with a corgi too small.

Someday, I'll be with you, dear corgi!

Who wants them? Marketing as "teacup" corgis. Not ethical breeders.

Not mention kill the dam.

Hopefully someone wishing to show will have enough sense not go to some byb specializing in "teacup corgis," they will go to someone who does show. Herding wise, puppies can do pretty well on ducks and even sheep.

When I was still looking around for a Corgi I saw an advertisement for "Mini Corgis." They were bragging about how tiny the parents were and how they produce really small pups. I don't know if this would cause health problems, but it doesn't sound good.

After I had already chosen Waeryn I saw an AD in my local paper for 7week old Corgi pups and I wanted to just go look at them because all of the Corgi's I'd seen had been adults. The puppies were about half the size that Waeryn is at 8weeks. The mother was pretty small and it looked like something was wrong with her...her coat didn't look right and she was missing some fur by her nose. The father was smaller that my Aunt's female Corgi. It made me really sad.

My brother doesn't have him--I was saying my puppy's littermate/brother. The breeder still has him and is apparently going to breed him. :\

Oh, sorry I misread that. Shoot! Well, as I said says a lot about her ethics. No reputable breeder would be using him for breeding hoping to get more blue eyed Pems.
