I've never heard of anything called that in Cardigans. vonWillebrand's Disease (vWD) is a bleeding disorder similar to hemophilia in humans occurs in the Pembroke breed, but not heard of much in Cardigans. That's not saying it can't happen in a Cardigan, but there aren't any real verified cases that I am aware of and there hasn't been mention of any on the ShowCardi list. IF you get more information please share, I'd be very interested.

i have found it hard to find info. i did find a little about it,however,it has been a while back, and my memory is not what ie used to be! LOL! I do know it is VERY fast acting, and if not caught in time,DEATH! the e-vet did exactly the OPPOSITE treatment that should have been done.this is all hindsight, of course.IF only my own vet had been on duty! they need transfusions, liquids,NO FOOD. it usually happens before 4 yrs.i vaguely remember all this, and cannot remember the name, other than what my breeder called it.it just would help to talk with someone who knew about it and could offer more info. old sayihg 'MISERY LOVES COMPANY".my husband and i have never gotten over it!! THANKS,Molly

There's ehrilichia.
Ehrlichia: AIDS of the Canine World
Parvo can have some similar symptoms, that is usually in puppies and young dogs not appropriately vaccinated though.
Hemangiosarcoma
Hemangiosarcoma
Don't know if one of these was it, but if you recognize one, let us know.

Sorry, I've not been able to find anything. I did check for references on the ShowCardi list and came up blank there too. Without knowing what it was, it is hard to say if there is a genetic component. IF you find it though, please let us know.
