When my past Pem was about 10, we noticed a lump the size of a small pea right on her gum in front- this lump was cancerous and was removed by the vet - he had to go in quite deep into the gum to do this.

After that, I would check her monthly for lumps and I became very good at being able to detect the smallest thing that felt strange on her. I had found 3 more lumps after that at various times - one was in her armpit and one in her groin, and they were very small and another was on her thigh. All three turned out to be cancerous and all three were a different type of cancer which My vet said he had never seen one dog having three different kinds.
I could not tell you what types of cancer they were because I no longer have her records with me.

She lived for two more years after the last lump was removed, until she became ill last December and I found out that she had a large tumor on her liver.

I also check over Trevor's (aka Mr. Wiggle Butt) body often for signs of lumps or bumps that weren't there previously. Good idea checking under the armpits - I'll add that to our "tickle" sessions.
