Just a wee bit of clarification - AKC does not prohibit the breeding of fluffs and two AKC registered PWC or CWC parents can produce a litter of AKC registerable fluffs. So yes fluffies can be bred and there are breeders of dubious regard who do breed specifically for them and will market them as "rare long haired corgis." I know of at least one current CWC breeder who has been known to utilize coated dogs in her program. Additionally back in the days when gene pools weren't as large, fluffies along with mismarks were sometimes used in a breeding program to reach the next step. The gene for fluffies is in the genetic soup of the breed(s) and by the nature of its inheritance, it isn't going away. Fluffies will most likely always be with us.

The standard describes the perfect specimen of a breed and that is the brass ring reputable/responsible Breeders are reaching for. Each breeding is or should be <imo> approached and done with the goal of reaching one step closer to the "ideal." Since there are no "perfect" specimens, Breeders keep trying. Mother Nature always has the last word tho' and fluffies are one way she keeps Breeders humble. I also believe that well-bred, sound tempered, healthy pet puppies placed responsibly in the correct homes are as much a credit to the breed(s) and their Breeders as the next great specials show dog, which are not always the easiest ones to live with either, btw.

Debbie

Are their other breeds that have this "fault" in regards to Fluffy's?? Off hand, I am not aware of any...let's see, have we ever seen a fluffy lab? or a doberman with longer hair...or is this something that is unique to Corgis?

Sorry if this seems like a crazy question...and just to show you how little I know about fluffys. I thought ONLY females came in fluffys.

Coat genes (aka fluffies), can and do appear in other breeds - German Shepherds (GSD's) is one that springs to mind. Dobies or labs - don't think it is in the background of their gene pool, so it wouldn't be seen there. Dwarfism can and does occur in other breeds, Rotties and Goldens are two I can think of (they'll often get labeled corgi mixes by shelter personnel). All breeds have coat faults, be it length or color or texture or ...

OOOOOhhhhhh but there are beautiful fluffies to be seen. Fluffypants is one example as well as the other fluffys here. Also, if I am may say this, With a recessive gene, you never know it is there until you have a fluffy born.

We may have a language barrier here, but I'll try. Fluffies are not that numerous in the US although it may seem so at times. I agree to breed deliberately for fluffies (fluffy to a fluffy or regular coat to a fluffy) is not a reputable or responsible practice. However, (usually seems to be one those doesn't it? ) as we may not know what other genetic material is linked to the genes for fluffies that may be positive in the larger scope of the gene pool, completely eliminating the trait may not be in the best interest of the breed(s) either.

They sure do! Just as pretty and neat as Pembroke fluffies.

I have a fluffy as well. When I started my search for a corgi, I did have fluffies in the back of my mind, because they're gorgeous, so I was pleasantly surprised when two fluffies came out of a champion breeding in Canada. >^_^< I researched the breeder, etc., and then quickly jumped on a puppy before anyone else could lmao...

This is my first fluffy, AND my first corgi! >^_^<

I have a question as well. Those are you with Fluffies, when was it that they got their full coat? I'm still wondering if Shippo's going to have a medium length coat or a long one, but I suppose I will have to wait like a year to 18 months right? Not quite sure. >^^;<
