It's time for a bath....

MGM - I use a blowdryer on Chip after I towel him dry if it is cold outside. If is it a warm day, then I just let him run and play after he is towel dry though.

Everyone is making me feel a bit guilty here. Cody's doggy day care does grooming/bathing so I have it done every 6 to 7 weeks; I could probably stretch it out further. I schedule a 1/2 day of day care where he gets done playing at noon and then they bathe him, clip his nails if necessary, trim his foot hair and check and express anal glands(if needed) for a cost of $25; and then I pick him up around 1:30 and he is all beautiful.

I have bathed him at home, but I have lately been letting someone else do it.

If I don't give Chip a bath frequently, he starts his itching. Also, he sleeps with us at night and his fur feels so soft after a bath.

MGM- as long as the hair dryer is set on a low setting, not too hot for her skin, then i dont see it as a problem at all. My big reason that I don't blow dry Dillon is that he is afraid of it and wont stand still for me.Anyway, he would rather Frap and roll around instead
Linda, I wouldn't feel bad for having a groomer do it, if you are confident in their abilities and they do a good job, and for that great price, that is awesome! Around here, a dog like dillon would cost me minimally $40 to be groomed...which to me is highway robbery as I find it easy to do, so i just do it myself and spend the $40 i would have spent on more toys ( like he needs more LOL!!!!)

I get Zip groomed all of the time. I will start taking Zia to the groomers, too. We just bathed her yesterday because she didn't smell too good. I, too, only use the blow dryer if it is cold. Yesterday, I towel dried her and just used the blow dryer (on low) just to make sure she was good and dried since she is still young.

Thanks for responding guys, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't drying her improperly. I know that hot spots can occur, so I'm ALWAYS very careful, and Miss Gambler doesn't mind being blown dry at all, I've done this from the start. I clean her ears, trim the fur around the pads on her feet, cut her nails and then she always gets a bacon Beggin Strip, then promptly passes out and takes a really long beauty nap. What a life!

I don't trim the fur around Chip's pads. I feel fortunate he will let me clip his nails and I don't want to push my luck. LOL It sounds like Miss Gambler is a pampered pooch.

Chip'sMom: Miss Gambler has always had amazing speed, but when I starting trimming that fur, her speed REALLY picked up. I had never trimmed that area until I read about it(when she was around one year old), and it really does improve their traction, but that may not always be such a good thing, lol.

Jackie gets a bath once a month, pedicure (trim hair on feet and grind nails) once a week, ears cleaned every couple of weeks and teeth brushed every other day (I shoot for every day, but it doesn't always work out). She also gets her hair brushed daily, to keep her mat-free. And I trim her rear end with clippers every few weeks as needed, to keep her pants from turning into a skirt (and for hygenic reasons ).

Linda - if I could get Jackie groomed for $25, I would not hesitate! You should not feel guilty, you should feel lucky!

MGM - I blow dry Jackie with a dryer I got from Drs. Foster & Smith. Same as a regular one I would assume, but doesn't get as hot so less chance of burns & owies. Even with the dryer, it takes forever!! She has SO much hair!!!

The Girls got their pre-Thanksgiving bath today. I have found it is easier for me just to crawl into the tub and have Hubby give me one girl at a time. When I'm finished I just shower off too. The Girls are good in the tub but it just kills my back to bend over it - much easier when I'm in it.

Hubby throws a fit everytime I trim toe hair, he loves to rub it. Ok that sounds very strange.............LOL

I am a bit confused about your first sentence, he love to rub what?? the toe hair? Maybe some fuzzy slippers for him for Christmas would be a good idea.

LMAO yes............... he rubs their feet and talks to them about how long the hair is on their feet........... Good lord we need to get a life........
