Question Feet grooming

I hope this is not a dumb question, but Sassy is the first Corgi we have owned, we have always had Bassett Hounds and Poodles.

I am wondering if the hair on the pads of Sassy's feet should be groomed? She slides on my linoleum floors in my kitchen and hallway. She has no problems outside or on the carpet. If it does need groomed is it something I could do with something like a mans beard trimmer or should I take her to the groomer to have this done?

You all are so helpful on this forum and I am so happy I found it. I am sure I will be on here a lot. Oh one more question, my Sassy seems to get bored a lot and I was wondering if you recommend that I get another Corgi or other breed for company or just get busy with the agility exercises? She is very energetic, but she will dig holes in my yard when she is bored that no one is outside playing with her.

I feel there are no dumb questions just dumb or rude answers. I trim the hairs on my Corgi's pads by putting a muzzle on her while I have her up where I can get hold of her foot. Being careful not to nip her I have kept the fur from being long enough to get under her pads. You may want to have someone hold her while you concentrate on trimming.
Since I am handling her frequently, I don't need the muzzle as often, she is beginning to trust me.
I will let someone else answer about getting more exercise for Sassy. She definitely needs some way to work off her energy. Good Luck Jane

Thank you

Thank you Jane for helping me with this. We, my husband and I, thought we should probably trim them as she will sometimes run and I am afraid she will get hurt sliding on the linoleum, luckily most of my home is carpeted. I really appreciate the information.

I agree with Jane there are no dumb questions.
I myself just found out about trimming the feet. Darci kept sliding into things on our tile floors.
Poor thing I was afraid she was going to hurt herself, but trimming the hair has helped.

My fellow hated the hairs around his toes and pads been trimmed but I now use a much better scissors(very sharp and no pointy tips) for the job and he is much happier f to go through the process - which is about once monthly. With agility it is important to have the hairs trimmed so he can get a better grip on the contacts.

Sassy needs more human attention and perhaps more exercising would be helpful - at least this would take her out of the environment she is getting bored with. Agility is an excellent form of recreation for her and it also good for drawing in a closer relationship betewen you and her.

*~* Midnight * Sunshine are so used to me "seeing" their whole bodies....that they don't even really fidgit anymore.

I softly say, "Let me see".
Midnight complies a little bit better than Sunshine...but, Sunshine still lets me get it done.

** I grrom every OTHER week....giving them only one week's reprieve...I trim their nails (all of them !) and then trim the hair around their paw pads.

They are so used to me doing this....it is like an activity to them...insted of an annoyance.

I groom Taylor daily. He loves it - it stimulates his skin - and it takes only about 3-4 minutes. Also it helps keep him clean and takes away loose hairs so I don't have to vaccuum so often. I use a steel comb first with the teeth closely set and then a hard bristled brush and finish with more combing. People think I groom him for hours but of course Corgis with the correct coat, are easily and quickly groomed up.
