Sheding Blade

Does anyone use one of these tools to groom your Corgi? I've seen them before and they look like they may be pretty sharp. It doesn't look like the kind of thing I'd want to use on the undercarriage of a female in fear of nicking one of her...well, appendages I guess is a good word. I don't know how often, if ever, this device would be needed.

I have one or two around here. Don't really use them much on the corgis, but do find them helpful to get hair trapped in the corners of the carpeted rooms. I prefer rakes, and combs myself.

I first saw one in a book I bought, "Welsh Corgis" by the editors of "Dog Fancy" magazine. I later saw one at Pet Smart and wondered whey the need for it with all the other brushes, rakes, etc., on the market...just curious if anyone actually used one as it's teeth reminded me of a saw!

I have a Shed Ender, rather than a shedding blade. I wouldn't trust myself to use a shedding blade - they look dangerous.

I use a shedding blade on my cats. I've used it on my corgi once, but her topcoat is so thick I really had to press down to get into the undercoat and decided to scrap that idea.

I use the Kong Zoom Groom now. It works like a horses curry comb and pulls the undercoats dead hair out.

Me Too....I have a Shed Ender and love it. Ponzo sits so nicely for it, I just hear him saying "Ahh" in his head and it ease out some the hair. During serious shed time (like about now) I do it twice a day, and although it still looks like someone started a hair salon in our living room, it's sure to be worse with the Shed Ender at all.

I tried a shedding blade on Owen, but it seemed to be pulling out too much of the top coat. He started what I thought was a major shed when he turned 7 months. I have since read that corgis don't really blow their coats until they are at least 1 year--I can't wait. Anyway, what worked for me was a furminator for his undercoat, followed up by a zoom groom to get the shedding guard hairs. The big shed is over, so now I just use the zoom groom every few days.

I saw the shedding blades recommended here and bought one, as Rose is a really fussy groomer (she fusses, I grit my teeth).
The blade is just great and gets the loose hair out beautifully. I've tried plastic combs, metal combs, wide-toothed combs, narrow toothed combs, brushes of various types, zoom-grooms - you name it, I've probably tried it, in fact I reckon I have enough discarded grooming kit here to start a small shop up - but nothing has worked as well as the blade. And best of all, Rosie actuallly likes it! She leans into the blade as I groom, which is eye-poppingly unique for her! I do still like the zoom-groom for a quick lick-and-promise. I haven't found that the blade damages the topcoat, but maybe I'm not so fussy. Also not showing her, so maybe I don't know what to look for.
As for damaging her nipples, I take due care when doing her belly.

Well, it depends. If it's spring and the dog is close to a year, meaing a few months or so away they might blow their coats then.

Blowing coat is when you get the tufts, the coat comes out in handfuls. Now if you brush your dog every few days or even every week you might never get the tufting/blowing coat stage.
