That is too funny Linda - did you do it on purpose?

Of course not Jessica I would never do such a thing on purpose

Honestly, I was quite young and I think I just grabbed the first one I could get; not sure why I didn't choose my own.

Yes, we are interested in learning about the comb as well!

Jessica, that is a hilarious story! I've been to those parties before and can just imagine the reaction you got about the hair!

Linda, great story!!

Sensual parties? Gizmos? This thread is getting more interesting by the day. Makes the job of reading almost all the posts, worthwhile.

Fido - Brands of combs is not the trick to pick out the right one . Here it is: stainless steel comb - long enough to have a row of teeth with one part being wide-ish apart and the other more narrow. I hardly ever use the wide teeth except after a bath ie when the Corgi is still wetish.

The size of the comb is 7 inches long and one and a quarter inches wide.

Okay, so Ace is shedding like CRAZY right now. He shakes and hair falls off! We have been brushing him at least once a day usually twice or more. But the hair keeps coming. We bought a brush recommended by the Petsmart groomer but aren't sure it is doing the job. Thank goodness we just bought the Dyson to pick up all the hair! Is the comb you mentioned, Michael, good for top coats or under coats? We think more hair is coming from Ace's top coat. We can gently pull at his coat and the hair just falls off. Does anyone have a favorite brand or type of brush that seems to do the trick?

As a newcomer to this site, I thoroughly enjoyed reading all about shedding, my Izzy only sheds once ..... January thru December. It seems that if I am not running the vacuum I am pushing the Swiffer, but such a small price to pay for the delight she brings.

Hello Marta,

My name is Linda and Cody is 11 months old. I love your sense of humor
very cute. I run the vacuum quite frequently also because I have 3 cats besides Cody. And Corgis are a very delightful dog.

Through my experience and what I heard, corgis shed big time twice a year - once for the summer and once for the winter. In NYC during the winter, we all wear big & heavy coats. Milo's fur will be on my coat. No matter how many times I comb him, he still sheds but may not be a lot.

He sheds the most after a bath. Is that true for all the other corgis?

Michael: We got the comb you described. Very helpful.

Sweetly - that's one of the reason's why you bath a Corgi more regularly than you would normally - to get rid of those loose hairs in one swoop. After a bath - Taylor is not allowed inside the house until he is almost fully dry and had several grooming sessions - especially with the comb - to take away all those loose hairs.

We try not to give him too many baths but he gets dirty so easily! What is the recommended baths for a corgi? Once a month?

I give Dillon a bath once a month- unless he has been in a really muddy or dirty place but normally i plan those really dirty trips for when i know he is getting close to bath time.

When i was researching the corgi breed and called different breeders ( interviewing them as they were interviewing me) and i asked them all the same question- "I know the great points of the breed, but what are some of the negative things about your breed?" and every single one started off by saying, "well, you know, they DO shed...." I found that a bit odd, as most dogs shed...until i got DIllon and went through his first real blowing of coat...and now i do understand. Like Linda, I too got a Dyson for christmas (and it was the best gift ever! My hubby was able to find it less than $500 on ebay brand new ( he spent about $380 for the animal dyson) It is by far the best vacuume that i have ever owned and i too have three cats with tons of hair .

People are always remarking how clean my Taylor is. And it is not the baths he gets - which are sporadic - but daily three -five minute grooming and towelling down before he is comes inside the house from without.

Recommended baths for Corgis - I would say once every three months would be ideal for a Corgi's coat and skin to really retain its oil properties and to keep the coat and skin 'wet.' But with the shedding situation, conformation showing and in getting caked in mud or perhaps rolling in something that they shouldn't, Corgis can get bathed more regularly than that even though their coat is the loser. So for people who want to have less problems with shedding and loose hairs settling on carpeted floors and clothing, a bath once every three to four weeks or monthly is a solution. Of course, if a Corgi likes swiimming and he/she is given access to clean, fresh water lakes, rivers and streams - then the need for baths in any case is reduced to the ideal.
