I have not attempted to brush Chip's teeth - I have a hard enough time trying to cut his toenails. I have given up and am going to take him to the vet. It is worth the $8.00 but I will ask her about toothbrushing and what she recommends. It sounds like the finger method might work well on Chip.

I have been brushing Sassy's teeth since she we got her. I use the finger thimble and doggy toothpaste (beef flavor) and she just sits there now and lets me clean them but sometimes she will close her mouth and then it is utterly impossible to get the bottom back teeth. I brush her teeth 1-2 times per week. The vet said they look great and to keep up the good work. We also have the weekly ear cleaning with a makeup removal cotton pad and 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar mixed together. I have done that since she was small also so it is no problem now. The only problem I have is the tufts of fur on her feet. She hates us trying to trim it but she slides so bad on the linoleum if we don't. Any suggestions?

I trim around Cody's feet with blunt scissors when he is napping; makes it easier. However, this week, he spent the morning at Doggy Day care and then they gave him a bath which included trimming around his feet and they did a really nice job.

Hello Barbara,
Try a Lady Remington cordless shaver! The smallest attachment is perfect around the toe pads and the wider for a super quick trim. Our Buddy doesn't even notice as he's too busy licking peanut butter from his Kong. The whole job takes no more than a few minutes. Give it a try... Now you all have encouraged me to try teeth brushing again. Was quite the bust the first week home and decided to put it off and just use chews. Buddy's now 8 1/2 months and has adjusted so well, it's worth another try. Thanks for the thread and advice! Last edited by fido; 09-08-2006 at 06:03 AM. |
