Hi, I tried to get heartwarm medecine for my dog;palette from Pet-med and, apparently,our vet did not give prescription to them so, Pet-med e-mailed me to tell that vet is not giving them a prescription so, ask them to do so.Well, I called them up right before this thread writing and, receptionist was in annoyed tone of voice and once hung up on me but I called again,and talked and what she said was that we must buy the prescription with 15 dollars and they do not fax it to the Pet-med so, we must mail it to them.If we do not like that idea, they say they do price match up with petmed but they do not sell what I ordered; I oredered heart warm med for 12 months,but she said that she sells 1 month or 6 month only,no 12 month.
Vet lady said we print out the price showed page of pet-med and buy with the price.
I bought flea med months ago through petmed but did not have this problems before and I am like why!
Anyone had same experience?

Palette is still limping although very fine;big appetite, very active and play with toy and bones in confined area..
She is playing with springy thing that is there for the room door and it makes funny noise :-PShe used to push it and make funny noise and barked at it when she was 3 -4 months of age but she does not bark at it anymore.

The Vet may not want you to go through Petmed because if your corgi has not been taking heartworm pills every month there is a chance Palette could have heartworms. She needs to be tested b4 heartworm pills are given or she could die.

My Emma became infected last year sometime between Nov and Dec - I didn't give her pills then because did not believe there were any mosquitoes left by that time. It takes 6 months for the test to show heartworms. She tested negative in early spring when she was retested later they showed up. Emma was very very sick and had to go through two 30 day treatment periods before getting better. Right now she is on heartworm pills again but will need retested soon to be sure they were all killed. If they show up again we start all over again. If you go through my old thread on Emma being sick it gives a lot of details about the treatment and confinement and side effects she has had.

I would advise you and everyone to go through your Vet so they can give the proper tests to be sure your corgi is heartworm free. I would also advise everyone to give heartworm pills even in the winter months.

Keep in mind that heartworm medication is guaranteed to work, but only if purchased from a vet. This is in the fine print that is so easily missed, yet could save a lot of money.

I have been giving her heartwarm pills every month,so I meant that I just used up and I needed more and, now having trouble getting one for this month. She was ok with heartwarm thing when she went to yearly check-up.and,I kept giving her the same heartwarm preventive pill up to last month,so she should be fine.
I did not know that thing I would get from petmed and thig I get from vet has different although same companym,same name pill in same package... That should be something I will check when I get package someway.

It is indeed (supposed) to be the same medicine, but companies will not guarantee it to work unless it comes directly from your vet.

My mother worked for a veterinarian for 21 years and they did not recommend 1800-Petmeds. Why? Because apparently they often DO NOT check to see if prescriptions are valid and also because of the reason above (ie., your dog needs to have a documented heartworm check).

I'm surprised your clinic reacted like they did, but the company is generally not loved by vets.
