Bonnie - so sorry about Lady. Be strong for her - the injections are necessary and you can do it with care and love knowing that a little prick will only be a few seconds of pain for Lady.

It is actually a good size needle the vet used and Lady yelped when she inserted it. I wish I could do it Michael - we will see what the future brings I am going to try to get her to drink more water - any suggestions on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated. I bought her some low protein canned dog food and she ate good last night and ate 1/2 a can today and she hasn't gotten sick so that is real good.

Thought everyone would like to know that Lady is eating well again with this new canned dog food. No upset stomach and Emilie gave me the idea to put water around the canned food and she drank it all up this morning. She also ran all the way across the yard and looks happy and acts like she is feeling better.

I am thrilled to hear that she is feeling better and was keeping down the food mixed with water. This is what i do with my elderly cat misty, i mix her canned food with warm water to make a thick soup - keeping her well hydrated and she LOVES it! Glad i could help. Hugs to lady!

Thats great news, adding water to her food is a great way to increase her input. Also in a previous post on this thread I gave you a few links, check those out, there are several herbs and vitamins you can add to her diet to aid her in kidney function.

You can certainly add a little water to each of her meals - especially if she get dry hard food - and in that way she will lap up the water because of the better taste it presents. If she needs liquids and not necessarily water, you could go back to milk (not cow's milk) as a breakfast. But I do believe it is plain water she needs more of.

Darci:

Thanks for all the websites. I will check them out today. My internet has acted up all weekend so I was on and off most of the time. I did manage to check out the dog food with only 4 percent protein so I may order that after I talk with the vet today. Lady is doing excellent with canned and water and acts much better already.

Lady's cbc came back normal and the vet said to feed her low protein dog food and plenty of water. If she stops eating again, I will need to take her back. She said that 6.5 protein was fine to give her. She is doing well. No vomiting, eating a can of dog food a day and acts alot better. Hopefully this will stabilize her for awhile.
