Hi Bonnie,

I wasn't on the computer all weekend. I'm very sorry to hear of Lady's condition. I went through it for 4 years in a row with two of my cats. They each got two years extra by having the sub-q fluids. I started out doing it myself, then decided that I'd rather have the vet be the bad guy and have them feel safe at home. They both sensed that it was helping them and grew used to going once a week.

It's good to hear that Lady is feeling better and eating well. Fluids are definitely her best friends. If you leave out a bowl of water mixed with low salt chicken broth, that may entice her to drink even more beyond what she is getting as extra in her kibble.

I wish her good health and happiness and Susan is right, enjoy her and make her life special.

Bonnie,

Sorry to hear about Lady - I've been busy at work lately and haven't logged on much. Glad to hear that the fluids and low-protein diet are helping. I'll also add (like many others) that when my old cat was going through kidney failure, switching her to k/d canned food with a little extra water mixed in helped extend her days and comfort level WAY past what our vet imagined was possible. Hope that Lady continues to show improvement, too.
