Now that winter weather is here, the cold makes things outside brittle, especially plastics. An aquaintence with a corgi informed me yesterday that their corgi had to be put down yesterday because he was playing outside with a frisby and he bit off a sharp chip of it, swallowed it, and it ripped him up internally where they couldn't save him. She didn't give further details. Please, please, be conscientious of danger to our loved ones, including the pets.

Oh Shelly! how horrible! I had no idea that could happen with a plastic Frisbee! How sad for the owners.

I came in the house after leaving the dogs to go to the garage for under 5 minutes. There in the middle of the floor was a plastic grocery bag. No idea where it came from.

I have heard the horror stories millions of times so I am very careful about plastic bags. This came from out of nowhere.

It takes just a second for a horrible accident to happen.

A friend on Dogster lost their beloved Corgi this fall when he got his head in a partially opened empty bag of nachos. He suffocated. Open bags all the way across the opening before throwing them out - you never know what animal will get into the garbage.

Also, for those of us in cold climates - the annual car antifreeze warning - watch what your dog(s) may be licking on the ground. Antifreeze is deadly, but it smells and tastes sweet to pets and is very appealing to them.

I know of two doggy deaths related to antifreeze ingestion... It is so imperative to be CONSTANTLY vigilant for our companions. They depend entirely on us for their safety! Thanks for the warnings and reminders - I am convinced we cannot be TOO careful!!

Thank you for that warning. That is a horrible thing to have happen. Losing a pet is so hard as it is without having one pass from a preventable household accident.

It's a good thing I only have the soft canvas frisbees. Although, in our new yard, I found an old plastic one.. I threw it away after I found it because I had these horrible visuals of Shippo eating it. >X.x;<

I doubt the dog would try to take a bite out of a frisbee, but if a piece broke off THEN they just might. My corgis eat bunny poop, petrified worms, seeds from palm trees that are on the ground, anything that looks interesting that is the right size. Just like babies, they'll put anything in their mouth if it fits. If my warning saved just one dog (maybe yours), then good has come of the warning. Have to keep our furry babies safe.

Isn't that the truth!!

I think Trevor's favorite "delicacy" are wood chips from the garage, followed closely by those petrified worms!

BTW, he says "hey bro, today we are 11 months old!!"

Yep, happy 11 month birthday to us (littermates 11 months old) Jesse & Trevor. By the way, have a great holiday Deb to you and all you hold precious. Also Deb, lucky you, at least Trevor keeps to wood chips in the garage rather than knawing at the cupboards and carpets like Jesse. ~Shelly
