Sick Puppies

I came home tonight to find a major mess in my dining room where I gate my two hoodlums.

Someone or both had been sick during the day. There were 5 piles of poop, vomit in 3 places, and pee. I've never come home to a mess from either dog.

They both seemed fine, happy to see me, ran outside to play.

So I spent 2 hours cleaning up w/ Nature's Miracle then mopped the floor and threw away ratty toys. I fed them their kibble for dinner and both scarfed it down. They were both kind of sleepy so I let them sleep awhile then took them for a good walk. They seem to be fine.

I think I will X pen them in a smaller section of the dining room tomorrow. Now I have to live w/ guilt of not being home with them when they were felling so bad. I think I have been forgiven.

OMG Susan - that must have been a highlight of the day! Hope they are okay - good idea with the pen - keep the damage in one area!

You had better watch what you give them to eat for the next couple of days and what they might pick up on any outside journeys and activities - nothing that can upset either of them.
Lucky it was a kichen floor and not some place carpeted.

They were down in the creek (it's a balmy 40 degrees here in upstate NY when it should be snowing!) this morning chewing on stiicks and moss. Short of crating my two troublemakers, there's no way of keeping them from putting yucky stuff in their mouths. I do duspect they both were sick from something they ate outside. I don't believe there could have been That Much Poop (!) from just one of them!

Last night around 10 pm Lulu got a 2nd wind. In 10 minutes : "Lulu, leave it" (the Christmas tree), "No!, don't chew the coffee table leg", "No" + squirt of water for chewing coffee table leg again, She transported 4 bones from toy box from dining room to clean living room rug, "drop it" (found a dryer sheet somewhere????).

Poor Lulu, she's at that age where if she's not sleepiing, she's into something she shouldn't be. We had just been for a good 2 mile walk, she should have been tired!!!!

So toady they are gated/x penned in a smaller area w/ a few chew toys and their water dish. I suspect they will be fine.

Good luck Susan, I hope the kids feel better today. Isn't it fun to come home to a big mess? Those are always the fun nights!

Oh I can sure sympathize with a mess like that! That is awful coming home and finding one of your babies hasn't been feeling well.

This reminded me of a story though so thought I would share real quick. I woke up one morning to an awful smell and I knew immediately what it was. One of my dogs (60lbs) had a bad poopy accident on the floor when I was sleeping. So... I start to stumble out of the bed.... only to land directly in the still warm present, barefoot! Talk about waking up on the wrong side of the bed.... sad thing is the day just kept getting worse from there. I promised myself if I ever did that again I was just going to go back to bed for the rest of the day and not get up again till the next day!

Back to the main topic...
Glad to hear your two seem to be doing fine now and hope they do good today!

I would imagine it came from outside and a bit beyond your control.
Creeks can be a worry (pollution?), even sticks and moss can be dangerous - there are some sticks from trees (where else?) (not saying they happen to be where you live) that are toxic to dogs. So one never always knows and most times you just take chances on their behalf so that they can lead the most enjoyable lives that they can.
I'm lucky with Taylor - he has only vomited twice in 3.75 years and that was just a bit of white bile - and one of those occasions was at a park.

Day two and you would never know they had a bad day.

Whatever it was..... is out... in one way or another! They are fine and back to their usual antics.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

Tucker and Lulu!!! There you are!! I haven't seen you on Dogster for a while and was wondering where you were. Glad to hear your feeling better, now. That was some mess you left your mom!

Duncan has done that the a couple time in the past month. but I think it's because he is wolfing down his food again and then starts to FRAP with Chloe. Seems like if he takes his time, he's fine. But, he's been acting like he never has had a meal in his life. You know, the typical corgi

Lady will get sick from time to time as well. It's wierd, but she bounces back quickly. She has been great in her crate and never goes potty in it. She'll wait till we get home and then we'll let her out to go. I think I may be spoiled with how she can hold her business.
