Barbara--

We will be keeping you and Monty in our prayers. You are such a conscientious and caring owner, we know Monty is in good, loving hands.

Take care.

I haven't been able to get to speak to a vet today because when I phoned they were busy and when they phoned me I was unavailable. But as a brief, there are 101 reasons for an epileptical fit - it could be something toxic that Monty had eaten. A brain tumour would be the worse scenario. There is medication that dogs can have to quell seizures.

Here are perhaps the major causes of seizures by dogs:
Low blood sugar
Low thyroid functionj
Infections such as distemper
Toxins such as lead paint chips, insecticides
brain tumors
Blood vessels bypassing the liver
Vaccinations

Use of Bach's Flower Essence Rescue Remedy is extremely useful after seizure.

Nutrition - the need for a preservative-free diet, change daily meals from kibble (dry food) to fresh meat (raw or cooked) and raw veggies.

Barbara,

I'm so glad Susie was able to provide you with useful and solid information. Plus it never hurts to hear from the horses mouth, someone who is actually living with a dog 24/7 365 who experiences seizures. As I understand it, stress can also be a trigger. Stress does not always come from negative sources, good, happy positive things can be stressors as well. Getting her wheels and finging her independence and freedom restored - bliss is the best word I know to describe the look on her face. Here's hoping it was just an isolated incident and she has many, many years of happily tooling around with her wheels.

Not sure what you feed, but if its dry kibble try adding water to it to help flush her out.

So glad you were able to see the vet today, hopefully things will only be looking up for Monty.

Barbara,

Maybe with the meds and the fact that Monty is mobile again will get rid of the infection and keep it away! Your poor corgis and you have had a time of it this year!

Hoping that this New Year there will be NO New problems (or old ones) next Year!!!

take care
Deb

I hope Montrose gets feeling better real soon! With her just getting her "wheels" and now this......poor thing! I'm glad to hear you found out the problem, cause I had a wierd idea as to what was causing it. I thought maybe it was because of her wheels.....putting some sort of strain on her back or something and needed adjusted better.

Barbara - Deb in Jamaica here - I'm only logging in to tell you how worried I was and I hope everything will be okay. Warm - I mean really warm wishes - from me to both Montrose, Dylan, Gary and you, I'll be in touch after I get back.

Barbara,

So sorry to hear about Monty, how scary it must be. My schedule has been so crazy I haven't had much time to get on Go Corgi. I was hoping to hear more fun stories about Monty and how she is getting on with her new wheels, so sad to hear of her seizures and other medical problems. I was relieved to see your last post and that she is much better. I hope she continues to do better and enjoys good health! She is certainly blessed to have a mom that takes such incredible good care of her! Have a wonderful Christmas!

Oh Barbara - how terrifying for you. I am thinking of you and hoping that Monty recovers soon. It has been rough for you lately, but I hope there is light at the end of this long, dark tunnel. Jackie sends corgi kisses to Monty.

Since I'm new here and just saw this, I thought I'd open it again for a question. I understand that vets around here give phenobarbital for seizures. Isn't "sodium"phenobarbital what they give to euthanize pets? That sounds scary to me. I don't know what the difference is from a chemical standpoint.
