Skippy has done something I was unaware dogs could do. A week ago he and Oliver were racing a young Basset hound to retrieve a ball and having a great time. This happened about 5-6 times, when Skippy came back limping. That night he couldn't even touch his foot to the ground. Got him to my vet first thing the next morning and found that he had blown out his knee!! Yes, he tore his ACL! Fortunately the doc that can do that surgery was there and as Skippy had not eaten, they got him into surgery right away. Everything went well, but now he is restricted from any activity for 2 months!! I even initially had to carry him outside to do his business. So for everyone on this forum - you know how big, bad, tough and mighty these guys think they are - they aren't always as invincible as they think! And keeping them quiet for 2 months is real close to impossible - so keep me and Skip in your thoughts (I know Emma's mom will) and hopefully 2 months will go by in a breeze!

Read Corgimum's posts on her Dylan's ACL surgery and recovery. Happily he's back ready to dance again after a long road of recovery.

How awful for poor Skippy! Of course you two will be in our thoughts.

It is had to keep them quite for such a long time and I was going to suggest reading Corgimum's threads too for ideas on ACL healing and how she was able to restrict Dylan. Seems to me she had an X-Pen she used but I'm not 100% sure about that.....

Emma was fairly easy to keep quiet because she felt so bad she mainly would lay around either in her crate or under my bed. She is back to being her old self! Skippy will be much harder to keep still because other than his knee he feels fine.

I have only ever had one Corgi who had his ACL wrecked - that was when my then two year old son sat on him. Then during the recuperation period, the other ACL went, due to the strain on the previously 'good' leg. This is fairly common. Bad luck Skippy - a bit a a freakish thing to happen anyway when you consider all the things Corgis get up to.

Jackie and I have our paws crossed for a speedy recovery. It's going to be a tough road for both of you - hang in there!
