Peggy - not to put a too fine of point on it - if an 8 weeki old Corgi pup has been showered which also included being cleaned with shampoo and soap and God knows what getting into their ears and onto the eyes and into their mouths, who knows what will 'flop.'

It didn't happen in this case as was further explained by the owner but I hope you get my meaning now.

Thumbs down Michael Romanos

Micheal Romanos - I enjoy this site a lot, but why are you so often abrasive?
We are here to learn and enjoy each others dogs. It doesnt hurt if someone asks a question that has already been answered, or if someone has a different opinion - such as showering their pup. They have to pay their own vet bills. You can offer your advice without sounding so brazen. Just my opinion. I am certain I am not alone in this feeling. Thank you for your consideration, as I know you are moderator. Erin Roberson

Ears

I am a brand new Corgi owner. Our pups ears flopped on the edges until about a month ago. Now both ears stand tall and never flop. She is just over 4 months old now. I will try to find a cute picture I have of her with her ears flopped over. Now they stand at attention.

Erin - I think I am being funny. Anyway I got a good laugh out of this shower and ears post. Laughter keeps both Corgis and humans alive and well. That's why Corgis are long lived dogs - they laugh a lot -and at their own jokes and at themselves. They don't take life too seriously. You have my support to shower your Corgi with kindness or kisses or water just as long as you keep anything soapy away from their ears, eyes, nose and mouth and any burst of water away from their ears.

Those ears on your pup are BIG. Might be a reason why they took a little longer to be raised to their full height.

So are you saying that 8 week old puppies should not be bathed? If so I still disagree. I have bathed 8-10 week old puppies and I have used shampoo on them. Then I use a blow dryer to dry them. They have been fine.

I have been living with corgis since 1980 and have raised several litters. Again, water in the ears is not what make them flop.

Shampoo in the eyes might sting, and a little in the mouth will not kill them. Now if they were to eat it, yeah, maybe, but then the shampo shouldn't be where they could eat it.

Honestly, when bathing a puppy, I think I get more shapoo in my mouth than theirs.

I agree with the previous poster, your humor is not coming across. You don't sound funny, you sound very serious.

Well if you don't think it is funny too, you might think it has an element of commonsense.

Around here was call the catchers mits.

Also to answer your question. As the ear grows it will flop until the musle catches back up with it. That is unles something happends to the cartlage in the ear. However, a well bred corgi with a lot of ear leather should not have this problem easally.
