What an adorable Corgi pup.

Corgis must not be showered. A bath without getting any water or shampoo in the ears and over the face is fine. No wonder an ear has dropped. Hopefully it will return to its normal position again. But????

The ear will most likely stand on its own. Many corgi puppies have a standing ear that will drop and then stand up again. You didnt mention how old your puppy is but let me reassure you that cleaning the ear with approved ear drops will not cause the ear to fall and to stay down. The most probable reason for the ear to drop is that it got wet on the OUTSIDE of the ear, where the fur is, adding just a tiny bit of weight more to the ear casusing it to drop. Once the ear drops sometimes it is down for another day or so and other times it comes right back up. I have personal experience with this seeing as Dillon's ears were pretty big and heavy and it took some real time to get them standing. When i got him at 10 wks old from the breeder they were standing, barely....then one flopped within a week... then it stood up and the other flopped, and back and forth, i did finally tape the ears and today his ears stand proud...

Koriwooi

Here is a thread where this was discussed and you can take note of Glencorgi's suggestions. How old is your pup?

I don't think I have seen a more prettier Pem pup than Pico.

Linda - if you read a little more carefully, the member has told us Pico's age.

Pico's ear should pick up. Emilie hit on it - it got too wet and ......flop.

Until the puppy is done teething, the ears can be up one day and down the next. That's normal.

If the ears have been up and drop, give them 24 hours, if they don't come back up by then, then I tape that ear or ears until the tape comes off. If they're standing I leave them alone, if not I retape.

Huh? I know lots of corgis that shower with their people. I use the hand held shower on my dogs every time I bathe them. And I rinse the head/face once quickly each bath. I do not put shampoo in the ears or use shampoo on the face. If there's a very dirty spot, I use a wash cloth. (And yes, I have some just for the dogs.)

I don't think it's water in the ear that will make an ear drop. If there is water in the ear the dog will most likely shake it's head a lot.

Put cotton in your dogs ears when you bathe or shower them. That will help to keep the water out.

Peggy - there is showering and there is showering. A newcomer to the game of caring for a dog might not know the difference.

Michael, no offence, but I am not a newcomer and I dont get what you are saying.. I think that the use of the word shower initially was becuase of possible language barrier/translation so I wouldn't pin someone to the wall for the use of that word... anyway, How did you know she wasnt talking about a shower and not a SHOWER... sigh

I know of people who have taken their corgis in the shower with them. And their ears don't flop. Just showering a corgi should not make his ears flop. And water in the ear won't make them flop either. I've had corgis who have gone swimming and a few who love to play in wading pools, sprinklers or hoses and their ears didn't flop either.
