Does anyone have CHICK certified dogs? - 01-27-2007, 08:36 PM

I would like to do the full round of testing on my girl, hips, eyes, elbows and the genetic stuf VwD and others.

Which tests can I have done before 24 months? I know there are a couple, I just can't find much and don't exactly know where to look.

Is there a full list of tests somewhere out there? I found what is needed for a CHICK cert. but found it odd that VwD isn't on that for a Corgi? Anyway, would like some adivice on this please.

TIA!!!

Pam,

That's a question better asked on the ShowPem list. This forum has very few breeders and those who would be concerned about things like CHIC certifications are a minority among those.

I thought I might, MUCH later down the road, possibly breed her but absolutely MUST HAVE her health certifications before anything like that is considered. That's why I was asking about health testing.

I've been talking to a friend that breeds a different kind of dog but has some great pointers. I have to be responsible for any little ones resulting from a breeding, for the long haul. I would have to do contracts AND she pointed out how important it is to do health clearances FIRST. It's a HUGE responsibility and I don't know if I'll ever be ready for it.

I have started the process of training her and do plan to TRY showing her later this year. Who knows, maybe she will do well. I'm just having fun with her right now and whatever happens with that happens..

For now, I'm leaving that door open. It's one that can be easily shut with one call to the vet...
