Gator's big snip is scheduled

Well... my little man is off to surgery today. The house seems so quiet without him here now! Checkers spent a good 30 minutes pestering me when I came back without him. He definetly seems lonely.

Vet will call as soon as he is done... and I can pick him up between 3:30 and 5:00. Basically, as soon as hubby gets back from work so I don't have to drag Justin with me again. Gator is still reluctant to get into cars, so I was hauling him under one arm, and Justin under the other this morning.... treading very carefully over the ice sheet they call a parking lot here. I'm sure it was quite the vision for all the neighbors. I'll update here when the vet calls with news.

It's just shy of 11am and the vet's office just called and said Gator is out of surgery and doing fine. We did opt to have two of his baby teeth (both upper canines) pulled while he was under because the vet was concerned they might be impacted. Anyhow... now we're just waiting to be able to go pick him up. I'm sure he'll be happy to come home!

BTW... I can't believe the prices you guys pay in the northeast. The total bill including the teeth was just under $170.... and that was one of higher prices I got when I was calling around! Amazing though... I remember the spay for my first dog ever was about $40 total.... that would have been about 20 years ago now though.

Glad that Gator is doing well..The teeth they pulled...are those his adult teeth or still baby teeth? I bet he will be so happy to be coming home! Wow that is a reasonable bill, the Northeast is really expensive in comparison. I live in the wrong area LOL!

They were just some baby teeth that hadn't come out on their own quite yet. I'm sure they probably would have... but just in case, the vet said it was better to have them taken out now while he was already going to be under. I'll go to pick him up after 3PM, or whenever my husband gets home from work so he won't have to stay overnight. I have never had one stay overnight for a spay/neuter.

He's home! So far he's doing good. I've caught him trying to lick a couple of times though so he may end up in one of Justin's onsies later tonight. He was definitely ready to leave that vet's office though. The poor little man. He'll get lots of lovin's and cuddles during his recovery though (as will Checkers so he isn't left out).

If the teeth were visible they weren't impacted. An impacted tooth is one that is not fully immerged. I don't quite understand why the baby teeth were thought to be impacted.

Ok, should have read further. Well, that's not impacted. And IMO, they would have come out. Were they loose? Were the adult teeth coming in?

Peggy, I'm sure you are right that they would have done just fine if we had left them alone... but I don't think they did any harm pulling the baby teeth either. The adult teeth are prolly more than half way in... longer than the baby teeth were.

And I think I might have the perfect onsie for him too.... it has "Turbo" written across the butt LMAO.

Glad to hear Gator is doing well. Dudley's vet pulled his baby teeth out while he was under as well. She said it was just easier to do it when he was under instead of leaving them the teeth in and having problems later and having to put him under again.
The turbo onesies sounds like it will be just perfect for him

No, and if the others were half way in they were probably loose. If so should have come out very easily.

Just wondered why they said they were impacted. It just made me curious.
