Got a Scare Today....

Well I took my girl for a walk today. And as is customary with my girl, she tried to pull me a long for about the first 1/3 afterwhich, she began to settle down.

The first wierd thing she did, was poop right in the middle of a sidewalk. She usually goes into the grass but she just stopped mid stride in the middle of the sidewalk and did her business.

A little later, she started panting very heavily, the inside of her ears turned BEET red and she actually started gagging and vomitting and sat down. I had decided to make our walk 1/3 the normal length since I'd forgotten her water bottle AND the temps were about 15 degrees warmer than they had been previously.

I was about to rush my dog to the vet after but she calmed down pretty quick and got a big drink and took a nice long nap. She STILL wanted to go out and play with the girls an hour later but I wouldn't let her.

Now I'm wondering if I just overheated her or if I should take her to the vet and get her checked out. Am I just being an over protective mom?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hmmm... well, being the over-protective pet parent that I am, I would have probably rushed Trev to the vet right away (they know "Big T" pretty well over there. )

Did she maybe just eat something bad (hence the sudden urge to poop and the vomiting?) Did she throw anything up, or was it just mucus-like stuff?

I guess if it were me, if she looks even a little bit under the weather today, I would take her in; otherwise, maybe just keep a close eye one here for the next few days.

Corgis with their double coats etc can easily succumb to the heat and all kinds of things can happen as a consequence. I don't know how warm it was when you took your Corgi for a walk but where I live anything over 25c (75f) would be too hot and a better time to exercise a dog would be when it cools down. or maintaining a walk in shaded areas. As well, your Corgi may have been lacking water before the walk actually started. I have scratched Taylor from some agility events because of very warm weather. In hot weather it is far better to exercise a Corgi early in the morning or early evenimg - unless they are going swimming or walking/running through dense forest.
