I am certain that your 'testing' methods are flawed. And it is not true that only exercise can reduce weight. Every valid weight reducing programme I know of combines a good diet regime with exercise. A lot of dog owners find it very difficult to cap the food that their dogs get. It requires a bit of self control and some thinking and planning. As I have said, weight reducing for dogs is the same as with us humans.

A newspaper reviewer of a television programme on an obese Dalmatian, said that overweight problems of dogs are "breed specific." I have writem a letter to the editor' of that newspaper pointing out that was not so. Obesity can be a major problem with any breed of dog - just the same as it is a major health problem with humans and not any specific group of humans.

There is a new approved drug on the market for the management of obesity in dogs. The drug is called Slentrol and it is the first and only drug of its kind approved by the FDA in the USA.
Some 20 million dogs in the USA are overweight - that represents around 40% of all dogs in the USA. Some dogs could suffer from side affects of Slentrol but clinical tests have shown excellent results. Me, I'd rather stick to a regime of food dieting and increased exercising. |
