Michael, I was particularly worried since I am leaving soon and I didn't know what the condition was. I was thinking along the lines you suggested but wanted to have a vet's opinion right away.

No ulcer thank goodness, a scratch in the corner- probably came from playing with Cindy. He is on ointment and pain killer- had to laugh though as our vet is Italian( and his partner is German) and as he was explaining how to use the pain-killing syringe, I thought he said I was to put it in his foot? I said 'what did you say? His Foot?' and he laughed and said' no, his FOOD'

I really must do this article - sorry folks, been busy with other things.
I would always get my corgi checked by a vet in the case of a red or painful eye. The ulcers can be hard to see, especially if your vision isn't brilliant (like mine) or the ulcer is at the edges of the cornea. The vet will put a disclosing agent in the eye to check for possible ulceration, which will then show up as a bright green patch. Laura: you vet may have already advised you, but if the ointment doesn't clear the problem within 5 days, go back and ask for a second check. Your standard "all breeds, all animals" vet may not be aware of the specific problems relating to corgis. PS. Rosie is still wearing the Elizabethan collar and has the eye stitched - that comes out on Wednesday. She is pretty patient about it, but it definitely affects her ability to sniff around and to eat and drink. We take the collar off for meals, but you do need to check that your dog can still drink. They have a tendancy to place the lower rim of the collar over the top of the drinking bowl, and she had to be shown how to put it in front. She has leared to hold her head up high when negotiating steps, too.
