Jane, I hope your dog gets good bloodwork and diagnosed correctly. When my Reba was around 9 years old she suddenly came down with pancreatitis which was diagnosed by a full blood workup. Her symptoms were sudden lethargy, would not so much as take a few steps, nor would she eat. Not wanting to eat was a sure symptom for my chow hound. My vet put her on Hills Prescription Diet W/D which is low in fat, high in fiber and cautioned me not to give her any meat table scraps, which I never did in the first place. We do love our pets. I'll hope for the best for your corgi. ~Shelly

Jane - I guess things are looking a little more positive judging by your last couple of posts ie Duchess is in some kind of controlled situation and she is eating and not throwing up.
Do your records show a date when previous similar medication was given.
Are you in a position to contact the previous owner/s and discuss the matter.

It is a great sign that Duchess is right now begging me for her food. I gave her a pill a half hour ago and have to wait another half hour before I give her breakfast.
We had a long walk yesterday, because she seemed to need the exercize.
When she got an intraveinous they shaved her leg and put a bandage on it before she was sent home. She has been licking that leg and holding it up some but not limping.
Micheal: I don't want to get in touch with the previous owner. Now that I feel Duchess was abused more than we first thought. We thought she was mostly given up for financial reasons as the breeder told us. Now we fear that she had a hard life in some respects.

HI Jane
I understand about your not wanting to have anything to do with the previous owner.
What exactly does your vet say that Duchess has suffered from/is suffering from and what medication has he prescribed.

My vet (she) said That it is a liver ailment. She didn't specify. I will definitely want her to give me a name that I can put with my records when Duchess goes back in a week. She prescribed Denosyl,Metronidizole, Metocloprimide and Amoxicillin. And I will ask what I can do to prevent some of these diseases I have heard about lately, Cushings, Panceatitis.
Michael, a great many of our vets in the U.S. are women. Is that the case in N.Z. too?

Hi Jane
Let me know what your vet says Duchess might have had or has got.
There are many women vets here in NZ but the majority are male. And I consider that generally speaking, the men are better at the job and better to deal with. But that may not be the case in the USA.

I have a lady vet. I did have a male vet for many years for Digger and when I took Digger in to check his enlarged glands, the male vet just blurted out that he thought Digger had cancer and wanted to remove his glands. Talk about a shock to the system! I switched Digger to this lady vet - end result was the same but she helped me get through it and was very compassionate and gentle to me and Digger. I think women have more compassion then men do and their skills are the same. There is good and bad in everybody no matter male or female.

Chips Mom
I agree with you. I think their skills are the same, but woman have more
compassion; however, I must say that my male vet is wonderfully compassionate - there are 2 male and 2 female vets where I go.

Compassion in a vet is a major plus because so often, vets are the bearers of bad news.
There is always this thing about treatment and costs. I would say that pet insurance is a good idea though I have yet to take out a policy.

I am so glad to hear that Duchess is feeling better. Good luck and Sassy and I hope this cures her for good. I really hate to hear that you feel she was mistreated at her prior home. I just cannot imagine how anyone could mistreat any animal but especially not a Corgi, they are so loving and sweet. I will keep my thoughts and prayers coming your way.
