Looking at you profile, is Boots one-year old this month? How much does he weigh?

I've read lots of posts here that say some Corgi's don't fill out until they are two years. (I've also been concerned that Charlie's very lightweight compared to average, but the vet said he is in great shape, he's just a little guy.)

If Boots is eating, pooping, playing, frapping and napping normally then I'd expect nothing is wrong. Much better to have a skinny, healthy Corgi than to have obesity probs with them.

Hello:

Good to hear from you again. My Dale had the same problem - he was a little guy and below weight. I started giving him supplemental vitamins, pettabs and changed his dog food to eagle pack holistic dry with a dollop of the canned and he grew. He isn't fat by any means now but he is the right weight for his age and size. I gave him the vitamins for a month or two along with the eagle pack. Some dog foods just don't agree with a dog, even though another may be thriving on it. This was the case with Dale. A trip to the vet may be in order just for a physical and rule out any health problems that you are not aware of. How does his fur look, eyes and overall condition compared to your other dog?

What do you mean by skinny? Ribs showing or just thin?

I agree, if he's acting normal, then probably nothiing to worry about. And it's quite common for a corgi to be thin at the age of your boy. In fact many corgis do not mature until they are almost 4.

He doesn't need to "pack on the pounds". It's better for him to mature as he's susposed to and if he's thin for awhile that's ok too. (Teenage stage.)

Taylor, my Pem, is nearly five years old and it is only this year that he has fully developed his chest and his underside has dropped to normal level - prior to that he was nicely set above the ground.

Miller is now 6 years old and still long & Lean. Molsen on the other hand filled out at 18 months. They are on the same diet and exercise program. Sometimes it is just the dog. But if you are really concerned, it does not hurt for a trip to the vets for peace of mind.

He is acting fine. I dont see his ribs but I can feel them. He just looks really narrow right around the center. It is almost like he caves in right after his rib cage. I guess next to fish it makes him look skinnier and I should not worry. I just freak too much I guess. I might get vitamins and try those.

That's actually a good thing..."caves in right after his rib cage". He should have a clearly defined waist. Better to be a worry wart than the opposite!

A corgi with a waist line? Don't tell Duncan that, he thinks he is perfect...LOL. Duncan was filled out by the time he was a year old, I think. His dad was a tank, and so is he. In fact, I should have named him Sherman instead.

OK well maybe I have been looking athim wrong. I will check him out again. Could it be cause fish is fixed he is more sausage like? Boots not being fixed could that be why is his more shapely? I am gonna get him fixed I just was told to wait by the breeder til he was closer to 2. I dont know that that is normal to tell folks but I was trying to go by it.

Weight is linked to age and how much you feed your dog. A dog that is altered (fixed) does not have to be fat, but yes it is often easier for an altered dog to gain weight.

It's his age. It's common for young dogs to be immature and thin. He's a teenage dog and that's why he's thin.

Why did the breeder want you to wait till he was closer to two? There is no reason to wait that long. I'd have him neutered now. I recommend that my puppy buyers spay and neuter by 6 mos. of age.
